Default So who gets the presents on December 24th?
Here you get the presents on the evening of December 24th, with the 25th and 26th being holidays with nice foods etc. Do all english speaking countries get theirs on the morning of 25th?

Well the 'Tradition' for UK families is to open the presents on the 25th (which is also a public holiday) and the 26th is known as 'Boxing Day' (also a holiday) to recover from the day before.

Of course religion could come into this, or other circumstances where this tradition might not hold true for a UK family.

There is I suppose one other reason why we open them on the 25th, and that is because everyone is out at the last second on Christmas Eve buying the presents.

Already got mine but haven't opened them yet and won't, at least not until possibly late Christmas Eve - depending on how naughty I am

Couple of the presents haven't been wrapped so I know what they are - 2x bottles of whiskey

We usually only open one present on Christmas Eve, and the rest in the morning. Though this year it will not be like that because we are not going to get very many presents. With the big family we have started drawing names. Sort of sucks, but it is good for the people in the family like me who don't have any money.

For my family its always tradition to stick with open presents together on Christmas day in the morning! I'll keep that tradition also when I have a family of my own.... don't understand opening them early.... waited a year anyway, whats a few days until the actual day it should happen?

Not opening our presents until Boxing Day (usually Xmas Day) here, that's when we're having our family get together.

Always used to be the 25th, in the morning. Recently for some reason we have been opening them on the 24th, I'm always drunk like there's no tomorrow on the 24th - it's possible the biggest drinking day of the whole year in Merry Bromsgrove. So, recently I've been opening them drunk, then forgetting what I've got and seeing them open again in the morning - works quite well, like having too christmas days. However, long gone are the days where I'd atually get anything I'd really want (26 now). So unless it's a new car, there isn't much I want for, so I don't get that excited feeling I used to.

Always on the morning of the 25th. Was I was little I would be up in the early hours eager to open all my presents. Now we just gather around at a sensible time and open them then. Its no fun when you grow up

Well, we popularised santa, if he is out all christmas eve night/early christmas morning in his sleigh delivering presents how the hell we gonna explain to children having all the presents on christmas eve? When you make a story such a big deal to children you gotta follow the rules of it. Gosh, i still remember being nine and heartbroken that there was no santa

When there are young children in the house they are opened on the morning of 25th when everyone is awake and then in a grown up household they are opened late on the 24th

I don't open my presents until I'm with the family on Christmas day. Which is normally a hour or so before lunch. I used to hate not being able to open the presents first thing in the morning as a kid, but then the anticipation is half the enjoyment.

Ever since my sister and I have started sharing Christmas with our significant others, my immediate family opens Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve, so that we can go to the other sides family on Christmas day in the morning. Then come back Christmas day for dinner.

[rofl]

We open on Christmas day and get gifts throughout the day when we see families. It's hard when you're married because we do the split family nonsense. Sometimes the wife and I open just ours at midnight the 24th but not this year.

For example, Me and the wife go to my brother's for breakfast then her parent's place for dinner THEN to my parent's for dessert. This way we avoid my brother's inlaws though so it works for us [thumbup]
