Default FutureMark Blocked at Work
In the last few days I have not been able to look at the forums here from work, as Futuremark Forums is now listed as a Blocked website (games) in my workplace.

As I can still look at the general portions of the site, and other sites I visit (hardocp, Toms hardware etc) are all still fine, I am wondering if the Forums association with Yougamers has changed the forum category on the web?

Is Futuremark now categorized as a gaming site?

it probably sees the word gamers and automatically blocks it... you can try using one of those anonymous surfing websites

I work enough as it is!

I have been able to reach Futuremark from work for years. It will be sad for me if after all this time the affiliation with the Yougamers site brings that to an end.

i might consider a proxy, but in most companies nowadays that is pretty much instant dismissal.........

Setup a remote desktop connection, and surf FM from your computer on your work computer.

At my old high school, they blocked a lot of sites so we just set up a remote desktop connection and surfed at ever site we wanted.

Are you serious? Have you not considered that websites are blocked for a reason? Even if the website has mistakenly been catagorised as inappropriate, bypassing any security measures such as proxies isn't something a company would be to fond of.

Obviously a decision within your workplace has been recently made to block any sites that are gaming or gaming related, as the FM/YG forums have been hosted on the YG servers since the summer.

I suspected that.

Its just I never really thought of Futuremark as a "game" site before. End of an era, I guess, as you become more "mainstream"

I just was not sure if the Implications for those of your members accessing the forums from work (and workplace blocking tendencies) had been factored into the decision to take on the "Gaming site" designation.

Our new content filtering setup was also blocking the forum and the ORB, I complained to the Admin and got it unblocked.

We've been through this before - how, where and why a user chooses to access the site is beyond our control, and regulations pertaining to the access of the internet at one's workplace are none of our business at all.

I seem to have missed those threads

Its just that when I encountered the problem, I immediately thought of other sites that have run afoul of blocking (usually of emails to subscribers) and how they reacted passively and/or aggressively to resolve the situation.

Not a huge problem though: there are plenty of other sites I can reach during my teeny little lunch break. FM will just have to become a morning/nocturnal thing on my workdays

Probably because your workplace has only started to apply site filters - as mentioned a little earlier in this thread, the forum changes took place a good while back.

Although the filtering of the forums is unfortunate, there's not a lot that we can specifically do. Mind you it's not as bad as Anandtech's forum which, at least the last time I tried them, did not allow anyone with an AOL IP address to use them!

Its high school. What do you expect? Not like anyone really cares. (IT guy, teachers, principle) [rofl]
We have nothing better to do, and these guys don't know what is and isn't blocked.
