Default Running Shoes... went shopping
I used to be a daily runner, but over the years, I've gotten lazy. I started running again, and my old New Balance 830 SG were getting very broken down.

This past weekend I went to Sport Authority, Academy, Finish Line, Locker Room, a few other shoe stores in the mall and ended up going back to Academy.

I tried on Asics, Nikes and New Balance. Before going, I expected to come home with Nikes. I didn't like the Asics, they had some interior padding that was strange. The only Nikes I saw that I liked were not available in my size.

Decided to try on New Balance and these were the best shoes I tried on all day. Ended up getting the New Balance 846.

Anyone else been shoe shopping for a particular type of shoe? I know there was once more runners in this discussion board... not sure how many now-a-days.

I run (well, not for the last month due to my bad back) - I picked up some new running shoes about 2 months ago. I went for a pair of Saucony's, which is also the make I had previously.

The type and make of shoe you need depends mainly on how you run. Some makes are better if your running style means most of your weight falls inside-out on your foot, and some are better if your weight falls outside-in. Me - I run with my ankles slightly in compared to my foot, - Saucony are especially good for people like me.

I'm not much of a runner, but I did recently buy a pair of shoes. I personally don't really like running shoes as they just don't feel right and are always too tight. Also they don't tend to last that long (as in they fall apart), maybe I just buy the wrong ones, normally nikes...

I bought these DC's

Very comfy, although I don't think i'll be doing much running in them. :P

Running shoes are a scam, I can run in my old cross trainers that I bought 5 years ago and then run in a pair of running shoes I bought a few months ago and it's all the same IMO. I don't ever get shin splints or foot pain.

Then you are a nutter - especially if you are running on hard surfaces. Back in the late 90's the british army changed their rules on running in boots. For my first two years (98-99) we were doing squadded runs on tarmac in boots, then the army decided that actually (and unsurprisingly) this buggered up soldiers knees, and changed the rules stating that when running on hard sufaces, trainers not boots should be worn.

When I first started running years ago, I ran in some old cross-trainer shoes. They were comfortable for regular wearing, but they were not made for running. I ran in them anyway and after months later, I decided I needed new shoes. I bought running shoes for the first time then and the difference was night and day! I literally could run faster in those new shoes.

If you think running shoes are a scam, then you are not buying the right ones. Several makes are little more than "fashion" running shoes, meant for anything but running.

If you purchase a proper pair of quality running shoes, the difference is night and day - especially when you run longer distances, and frequently.
