Default Amazon - DRM free downloads, cheaper than iTunes and Linux Support!
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post...sic-store.html

Woohoo...

This deserves your cash. Also, 256 kbps variable bit-rate, should be easily better than 128kbps AAC and will work with all media players, including iPOD. Oh and the songs automatically get added to your iTunes or Windows Media library.

Thanks for the heads up, I wanted to get some DRM free (non-itunes) music for a while. Hell, I'd support it just to support DRM free music.

Hmmm... but burning 128kbps WA to CD, then re-compressing it to MP3 will result is quite a lot of audio loss.

If it is Windows Media, there are ways of removing the DRM completely without killing the file's integrity.
Of course, I won't be discussing those programs here...

And as for the OP. If it wasn't Amazon...

Their "support" is about as brain dead as they come and they've pissed me off. So unless I am forced to, I will not deal with them.

Well I have no particular reason to go with Amazon over iTunes because both my music devices (PDA and iPod) support AAC. Plus I always remove the DRM off any music I buy.

Although if I find a way to set up a US account from the UK, I certainly won't say no.
