Just tell the guy you don't ship Internationally and then send a second chance offer to the 2nd highest bidder.

Seems like you hate Ebay because you made a mistake?
His auction clearly states UK only.

Post to:United Kingdom Offer it to the next highest bidder, leave feedback for the winner saying something like "Ship to UK only, not USA. Sorry, have a nice day".

Suffer the consequences.

IMO ebay is sound, it's paypal that's the problem.

Thanks because I could clearly see that's what his auction said BEFORE he posted a link to his auction.

Why do I HAVE to say that though, I thought just the places I chose to deliver to are the only places I will be sending it to, I didn't tick any international countries just the UK so it's not my fault at all. If I HAD type UK ONLY in big **** off red writing, I may as well right stuff like NO CHOCOLATE MONEY just incase someone decides to pay that way ?
Oh great! Another one of you eBayers who refuses to take Chocolate Money. I'll have you know Chocolate Money is every bit as safe and reliable as PayPal plus it's edible!

Seriously though if you didn't tick that you shipped internationally you don't have to send to anyone outside the UK unless you want to.

he didnt need to post a link to his auction because he said.... I only added shipping to the UK in my postage options. which is good enough really.

I have no idea how much it'll cost to get to the USA and I already put £6 on his invoice because I had no idea where he lived and just presumed he lived in the UK.
Here I think is where your problem lies. If you hadn't sent him an invoice, I could side with you, but that invoice is saying to the bidder "yes, I will send it to you for 6 pounds". Before you give an invoice, do you get the details of where it's going to? If not, what you need to do is have the postage not fully invoiced until you know the delivery address.

You don't hate eBay, you hate that you don't know how it works and might have gotten burnt.

Edit: Though I gotta admit, your ad does say "Dispatches to United Kingdom". You're specifying right there where you will send it to.

This guy still has not contacted me at all, I'm guessing a possible scammer. Gonna give it a while then give the second highest bidder the chance to have my item.

Unfortunately there is no legislating for the multitude of idiots that infest ebay.

A while back I listed 10 PC games (individually) on ebay - all sold. On each auction, under the payment section, in BIG letters I put "I accept paypal, but ONLY direct paypal-to-paypal payments. NO PAYPAL CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS".

Out of the ten winning bidders, seven of them sent me a paypal credit card payment [rolleyes]

I remember this because I was one of the "seven" and the auction page for the game I won definitely didn't say anything about not accepting Paypal credit card payments mate. Basically you didnt want to pay any fee's to Paypal, but if you advertise Paypal as an accepted payment method you cant suddenly state that you wont accept payment from a credit card via Paypal. Hence to say, your a nice guy, but I sure as hell wont buy anything from you again because I've never had so much hassle spending a whole £2 in my entire life!!!! LOL

Well you only gave the delivery option for the UK and that’s really all you need to do, contact the person who made the bid and point out there was no option for delivery out of the UK and if hed not willing to pay extra for delivery then contact ebay and explain to them, it's the bidder/ebays fault not yours.

I'm actually surprised ebay allow people from abroad to bid on items that only have UK delivery as on option, seems pretty stupid to me.

There's an option when you list an auction to block bidders in countries you don't ship to.

Am I to understand you didn't mention somewhere UK only? If so, you only have yourself to blame.
ya... seems like you hate it cause you didnt want to ship to the USA and didnt mention that... how is that ebays fault?
Because the internet is available in areas other than the U.K.? Common ebay practice is to state that you don't ship international.
Sorry, but if you can't understand this, then stupidity knows no bounds.

Should be automatic if you are only shiping to one country, unless they plan on coming to the UK to pickup the item. [rofl]

I recall yours was one of my early auctions where I did not mention this specifically - but in the last 10 I placed at the same time I did, and despite that several people still tried to pay using that method.

In all cases when I pointed out the text on the item page, they all went "sorry!" - and we sorted out an alternative method of payment.

My wife sold something on eBay and the buyer sent an envelope in the mail with a ten dollar note. The sale amount was less than $10 too, the buyer expected change! It's technically not even legal to post cash!

There ya go, scammer all along. I won't take too much pride in this matter though, having douchebags bid on your goods is no laughing matter. I think you have to open the dispute console to lodge a complaint against the member, include the text of the email he sent you.

Are you going to offer the phone to the runner-up bidder?

Yeah probably, why - you want it?

I will do a dispute I guess, but is what he's doing proof he is a scammer? Or should I wait for the more obvious email?

NO! I just ordered a new phone today, will be selling my old one on ebay in the next few days...should be fun!

That email alone is basis for reporting, ebay admins see these sorts of scams all the time, they'll know that this is just the first step to the obligatory "I use the Western Union for pretection 100% on buyer seller...." bla bla bla.

Here ya go, here is some info on the matter for you and what to do next;

And to report all of this;
