Default Horsemeat Pie?
I've always wondered what one is. In The Rolling Stones' song, B*tch, there's a line where Mick Jagger sings about being hungry, though he's just eaten a horsemeat pie.

Feeling hungry, can't see the reason
Just had a horsemeat pie
So, my friends across the pond, what is a "horsemeat pie?" Does this food item really contain horsemeat?

A recipe for Welsh Horsemeat Pie. Yes it does contain horsemeat.

Horse meat is not that a common dish in the UK, it was a lot more widespread during the war years and when rationing was still going on. However it is still served regularly in continental countries such as France or Italy, not necessarily just as pie though. Horse Steaks etc....

Maybe it's a play on the old saying, "I'm so hungry, I could eat a horse."

?

mmmm, could be pretty tasty I reckon, technically it's just another grazing animal.

I know quite a few people who've eaten Horse over in France. Apparently its just like Beef, only a bit tougher.
Can't say I'm tempted to be honest, I think I'd have a hard time getting over the fact I was eating my most hated of farm animals.

I think that would be a good enough reason to eat one. [xmaswink]

My mom has horses, always has. I can't say I've ever been a fan of the dumb animals myself, either.

Well....there arent just grazing animals!! God put them here as beasts of burdens for us superior humans, lol. *sarcastic*

No, honestly, I dont consider horses just another grazing animal, because I lived on ranches most of my life, I consider them to be very special/expenisve items, some even cost as much as a car, and in Texas, you would get the hanging penalty ( literally ) for killing and eating a horse....where I come from, not only do we not eat horses, but it would be considered an atrocity...

But, If I was hungry enough, id eat one.

My dad had 3 on his farm, well they were his partners. When he first moved up there she told me "If a horse ever charges at you, pick up two large sticks and wave them in the air". Course it was friendly advice but my first reaction was "There's a chance that those things will charge at me?!?!".

Whenever I used to go for walk over the fields they'd just stare at me the entire time, watching my every move. Course after 5 minutes I'd inevitably hurry back to the house....*shudders* darn horses.

I used to go on holiday to France every year with my folks when I was younger. I reckon there is a very good chance I ate horse-steak on at least one occasion. (likely labelled as beef on the menu).
