From what you describe you have either a strained middle deltoid or strained rotator cuff (supraspinatus). I don't know what recently means, could be yesterday could be last week, but either way you're going to have to ice it down /take NSAIDs (pain-killers) until the inflammation/pain goes down then you can start swinging again. Swinging your arm in a badminton fashion won't help until the pain goes away. Hopefully once you ice/take painkillers you'll get full strength and range of motion back but if not you might have to look into getting it evaluated and treated, along with some therapy.
