Default Guess where Aquafina water comes from =D
Associated Press: Aquafina Labels: It's Tap Water

Yep thats right.

http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2007/...ap3960953.html

NEW YORK - The label on Aquafina water bottles will soon be changed to spell out that the drink comes from the same source as tap water, the brand's owner said Friday.

A group called Corporate Accountability International has been pressuring bottled water sellers to curb what it calls misleading marketing practices.

Aquafina is the single biggest bottled water brand, and its bottles are now labeled "P.W.S." The new labels will spell out "public water source."

"If this helps clarify the fact that the water originates from public sources, then it's a reasonable thing to do," PepsiCo (nyse: PEP - news - people ) spokeswoman Michelle Naughton said Friday.

The corporate accountability group is also pressing for similar concessions from The Coca-Cola Co. (nyse: KO - news - people ), which owns the Dasani water brand.

Dasani's Web site says that Dasani comes from local water supplies and is then filtered.

"We don't believe that consumers are confused about the source of Dasani water," Coca-Cola spokeswoman Diana Garza Ciarlante said. "The label clearly states that it is purified water."

Sales of bottled water has been a growing source of revenue for companies such as PepsiCo Inc., based in Purchase, N.Y., and Atlanta-based Coca-Cola as they lessen their dependence on sales of traditional carbonated sodas, as consumer concern over health issues has weakened demand.

And you thought it was from the Mountains =D

To be fair, and checking out their website - they have never listed nor claimed it to be spring and / or mineral water.

That is the main difference, and what consumers should be looking out for.

There was a big fuss over here a few years ago about some bottled water that turned out to be tap water. It was from the Coke or Pepsi company if I remember correctly.

Ahhhh, Dasani. I worked in Woolworth's when that news item broke. The Assistant Manager spent his entire morning pouring every bottle we had down the drain. Took him a while I tell thee.

Good business model though, lets not forget the pioneer.

London tap water regularly beats all bottled waters both in microbiological purity and taste.

Drinking bottled water where there is no need is just horrible waste on both ones own economy and the environment. [thumbdown]

It won't kill you but it tastes too bad here in Malta, so we filter it.

We got a very good tap water quality too, but it doesn't contain the same minerals as spring water (which we have plenty too).

The gov't here always talks about how the HRM water "meets and exceeds" drinking water standards, but I find it hard to take them seriously when the elemental symbol they use for fluorine on the minerals chart is "Fl" [rolleyes]

This is a dastardly Communist plot to sap, and impurify, our precious bodily fluids!

This isnt new news. Its purified tap water. Its also the same water that they use for sodas. Its not the same water you get from your kitchen sink. Use your head, and a little common sense.

"Horrible waste on ones economy"? Please. It costs $4 for a pack of 24. Yeah, thats a lot worse than the costs of cigarettes of beer. Good job on that logic.

Maybe your guy's tap water, but not mine. My tap water tastes terrible. Aquafina at least is much better. I don't like Dasani at all though.

Factor in the resources used to bottle it, transport it and the fact that the majority of the empty bottles end up in our landfills.

Pretty big environmental footprint for a product that doesnt serve much purpose.

I buy my water in bulk because our water tastes crappy too. But I fill my own bottles and chill them in the fridge.

I do think bottled water has had one good effect. I think most of us drink more water now rather than always drinking sodas.

I dont care how much room it takes. And as was mentioned by another poster, more people drink water now, and not pop. Which takes up as much or more room.

Doesnt serve much purpose? Water is much, much better for you than soda, beer, and especially energy drinks which are all the craze right now.
