I'm not really impressed by the iPhone. It simply lacks features a demanding European customer wants. Sure it looks fancy, but N95 or E90 is the way to go.

Why no EU provider wants to sell the iPhone? Because for EU networks, technologically wise, it's a step back. UMTS is the way forward and iPhone doesn't have it. It doesn't have integrated GPS. There will be huge earnings from Mobile Phone Navigation Maps. When you want to download a country's map to the phone, you want it downloaded fast (E90 has HSDPA up to 3.6Mbit/s) not get old while downloading maps with EDGE (cca. 64kbit/s)

iPhone just doesn't deliver.
EDGE has a common deployment theoretical speed of 240 kbps, And real world typical speeds of 100~120 kbps.

Many networks in Europe support HSDPA with a 7.2 Mbps theoretical DL speed. However the performance differences 1.8, 3.6 and 7.2 Mbps are minimal, as they all tend to hover around a "typical" advertised connection speed of 400~700 kbps.

Just thought you might like to know. However the iPhone being an Edge device is pretty lame, in that regard it's seriously outdated from the get go.

Charge your phone every night when you get home, or bring a backup battery. Better than having both an iPod and an iPhone in your pockets...
Can the battery in the iPhone be changed without butchering it?

lol, no I was going to post that...his post made no sense because you can't swap batteries at all, or storage cards or you know trivial stuff.
I posted this in another thread, but since there are some iFans in here maybe they can set me straight. Don't get me wrong, it looks cool, battery life is great and finally a glass screen!

There are also a few HUGE downsides as well, particularly in light of some of the better WM6 (and Sybian) PDA based phones out there.

1. No real buttons. Say what you want, dialing from a touchscreen sucks. Well at least it isn't as nice. Also typing on anything without tactile feedback will be limiting.

2. The battery. While the battery life is awesome (huge kudos!) it is not user replaceable. I can live with that on an mp3 player...but there are times when I need to remove the battery for work reasons. Also, you won't be able to have a backup or spare...and may have concerns about draining it on a flight with the movies and music then having not enough for talk time once you land. Of course batteries also wear over time, and it will cost you to replace it.

3. No stylus for things like games and apps. Sometimes you need the precision of a stylus, sometimes you need to be selecting things without a fat finger in the way.

4. No replaceable memory of any type. Out of everything this is probably the biggest that would affect me. SD minis and Micro's are dirt cheap now, and dropping extremely fast. I bought a 4 gb card for my phone for $33. You have no upgrade path or swap ability (no to mention ability to load outside of the phone)

5. Slow internet connection. I believe edge only promises 80k with a theoretical max of 200. Pretty weak compared to the 3G phones out there, and I don't know if you can even use it as a modem with laptop (not that you would want to at those speeds)

Well I still expect it to do well and it looks awesome with great integrations and design, but some big drawbacks as well.

I hope we get something like this in the UK. Although I am still tempted to go for the HTC Kaiser when it arrives.

Oh, and the screen is now optical quality glass instead of plastic! This is going to be one amazing phone! I’ll provide a heck of a review as soon as I get my hands on one, but I think I’ll at least be very happy and anyone that’s happy with the iPod probably will be very happy with the iPhone also.

Oh, did I mention they’re pushing the crap out of this thing? In a four hour period of having the TV on I’ll average at least 7 iPhone commercials!
I loved my ipod, but I just detest itunes compared to zune marketplace/direct2drive....

So as much as id love to have a iphone, It just wont work out for me
