What I fail to understand is that almost everyone agrees that the subforums are a bad idea but they are still being used. Why? Isn't it obvious that most people like the other way? Seems like only the mods and admins like it the way it is, but isn't the site supposed to cater to the users?
Nope, it isn't. There are a few of you whining, but you aren't "most" users I don't think. Do a poll if you care so much.

Well I tell you what if you want a middle ground quit with the ****ing Religion and Politics combined. That was a right ****ing **** up.
Really? The world still seems to be turning; the Sun hasn't gone nova - I still wake up in the morning. Oh and people still post about politics and religion in the board. So what's the actual problem? You obviously don't like the change; okay, fair enough. Others don't mind, and plenty of other people haven't even commented. Your opinion has been noted but getting hostile and rude about it will not change a thing.

Whining or not, its the cold hard hard facts.

Hate to break it to you but they were a bad idea from the get go.
There are no facts as of yet, since nobody has shown any statistics - as it currently stands, everything is simply subject opinion. Sure, some people don't like the sub-forums; some people do like and, of course, some people aren't fussed either way.

Let me just make it clear now as to what's happening. We're taking onboard all comments about the changes; we're going to look at what those changes have done to the forums, its users and usage; we're going to then make some more decisions on whether or not things need changing. There's simply not going to be any knee-jerk reactions because some people are being very vocal about their opinions - the sheer fact that those people are still here, using the boards but still complaining, shows that the alterations aren't so bad that the boards are unusable. What that says is that those people just want the boards how they like it - well, that might not be possible; in fact, it's impossible to please all people, all of the time.

As a request to folks, if you've already made your opinion on the changes clear enough, then fine - I'm glad you've done so. However, repeatedly complaining and being blatantly uncivilised about it, just isn't the right way to go about thing; nothing is going to be achieved that way other than putting people's backs up the wrong way.

Oh, and as I final reminder, one can get an awful lot out of Futuremark for absolutely nothing - 3DMark/PCMark, ORB account, GoM tool (including an iFrame version to stick on your site); news, reviews and articles; plus a discussion board hosted on a very fast server. I would hope that most people are actually quite grateful for this but some folks sure have an odd way of showing this.

[thumbup] Neeyik thanks for the reply. It's great to see FM actually looking into this and all that. I know I've been very vocal about it, but I dont want it to be "simply" forgotten, as many things in this world are

It's very true about what you said about old onions still posting, I post here because me and FM/MO have a very intimate relationship. Hell. It's my homepage, and everything. I still treat it as my 2nd home. It's just that there are intruders now *Subforums* [thumbdown]

But /hug neeyik

all your posts make me smile[thumbup]

I think perhaps that the people high up think that we're complaining about all subforums. I think it's just a particular few subforums, such as the Blah Blah ones, we'd rather see back on the front page in full glory.
No, we are aware that it's just certain ones but as has been mentioned before, the sub-forums are there to try and streamline the discussion board as much as possible. Suffice to say that if one section totally dies because it's a sub-forum, then I don't think that there would be any doubt that it would move to being a primary category by itself.

As a separate comment, I would like to remind people that we're not so "aloof" or "Third Reich Power Fiends" that we would ignore comments and requests - remember the change in user titles? What about the reputation system? Both were universally disliked and so we binned them. With regards to the sub-forums, since they're not totall hated (or more rather, some are and some aren't), we want to look at things carefully before making decisions. It's not even been two week, I think, since the forum alterations!

The only cold hard fact in this topic is the one that you're a complete dildo!

Give it a rest, theres nowt wrong with the forum as it is, it is streamlined and is probably easier for the admins/mods to manage this way!

Others haven't commented because most people don't use them they are a bit of niche. I don't why you are asking what the problem is anyway as I have already commented on it so if my opinion was being noted why the need to ask?

Its a massive muddle and there isnt a big enough user base to support all the little sub forums.

Strip it back down to basics imo.

It was a rhetorical question.

Strip it back down to basics imo.
It's worth noting that many of the sub-forums were primary categories before the alterations; if there isn't sufficient users, due to their niche sectors (as mentioned above), to "support" them as subs, would the same statements still be true if they primaries?
