Try not to be to hard on yourself.
Talk to you doctor honestly and friends `n' family.
If smocking marijuana STOP.
Take every day as it comes
I try and think of the people that I love when suicide is in my head, try and think how they would feel +see the doctor.
Therapy helped me allot ,Helped me take thing in smaller chunks and not to think to far ahead .
Accept that you have a medical condition and that it's not just in your head (VERY IMPORTANT).

By the way I know allot of the logical thing that I need to do .But it is so hard to do them when your depressed.(Major part of depression and acceptance).
In life we all have up's and down's some harder than others ,some manage them better than others .Above all else it's normal and happens .

To say FM is not the place to talk is bs ,it's always good to talk .people love you, you just have to love you a bit more .Good luck
What a bunch of BS my god

I know you're a fan of MJ mate, but it really is verrrry bad for some people. I assume that was your point, the rest of his post seemed fair enough?

1. Get healthy. Depression is an illness, a disease, of the brain - or certain areas of the brain. Therefore it makes sense to become healthy. Eat healthy foods. Take regular exercise.
This is actually a really important one. I have an aunt where eating properly made a big difference.

As a start, I would suggest cutting out all pre-packaged food from your diet and cut down on (or even cut out) sugary/dairy/red meat products. Start making stuff yourself with fresh ingredients.

It may sound like some new age thing, but it really worked for my aunt. She found that her moods were a lot more stable after she started eating properly.

Definitely. It's a bit strange that these type of things are called "new age" because it's often the case that reverting back to traditional grown foods and less stimulation of all kinds is MUCH healthier than the sort of living most of us do these days.

I've suffered from depression twice, once with the help from my doctor with medication ([thumbdown] ) and the last one was with the great support from my best mate. After about 6 months to a year of bad things happening, I get quiet, seem to close myself off or get ratty but never seem to maun when the event happen - just lose all emotions and feelings for a while. While going to the doctors can help some people, I preferred my second way, which was find out exactly what was causing it and "face the demons" - this could be going to a place that relates to the demons for any reason.

If I didnt have the support from my best mate, I would have been a complete wreck by now and completely shut myself off from the world, cause I dont like the idea of going on medication again for it.

Different things work for different people, and if you're lucky enough like me to have someone so close that you can completely open up to, then I'd highly recommend that. It only took an evening at a site with them there for their support, which put me right. It was certainly a lot better than 3 months pilled up and sincerely thank them for it.

I'll agree to that, but its hard with the schedules most of us have. Be to work at 11:30, 30 minutes for lunch, get home at 8:00. Sitting down to a nice home cooked healthy meal just doesn't fit my schedule. There are some foods I just can't stand. Trying to stomach down something because its "healthy" just puts me in a shitty mood if I have to force myself to eat it.

Although when I do have a chance to eat well I definitely feel better, and there is a change in my mood. All the stress and a poor diet probably contribute to a large part of my depression. I would definitely suggest trying the food thing, and also do more of the things you enjoy. And an example that some might consider rude.. if you're the type of person like me who doesn't snap at people.. start doing it. When someone is being a complete *******, let them know. Don't just smile and let it blow over .. let off some steam. It seriously helps. And if they deserve it you don't have to feel bad, and just maybe next time that person won't be quite so rude if they know you're not just going to stand there and take abuse.

There's a million and one things that help different people. I, personally, would avoid meds. I believe that things can be done, and done better, the natural way.

Maybe FM isn't the place to talk about this subject then. By the way I have been rid of the MJ for about a year now with one or two relapses .On it for around 8 years before that so I know the difference between the two.
Been on the prozac on and off for the last 10 years.
If anyone wants more from me you will have to PM me because I am finished in this thread.

And doctors are the best people to see about it ,just to emphasize that point.
Edit close ones are also good therapy.

The best thing to do is suck up and learn to live with it. It's a plague of the mind and if you let it win then there's no hope for your self-sorry ass. There will be bad days and there will be good days, when the bad days are really bad just remind yourself that you're a man and you have a shitload to live for. **** it, live for yourself and make sure that you progress in the direction that you are dreaming of.

The antidepressant pills are the worst imo. I had taken some recently because i had gone through a bad patch (which i am now over, i don't think it was the medicine). Anyways the stuff i took, put me in a state of like just being spaced out a lot of the time. It's hard to explain, loss of emotions, loss of control in a sense, really bad short term memory... as time went on i started gaining weight, and now I've gained probably over 40 pounds thanks to the pills. kicked the pills, kept the weight grrr

a forum to check out is enotalone.com, for more personal types issues. Again thou the people there would probably tell you to go to another doctor (which is probably the best bet)

Thanks for all your stories and input everybody. And no, I am not thinking I'm going to get a cure from somebody here on FM. I got everything I needed from this thread, people who have been depressed shared there stories via pm or through the thread. I realize I am not a lone, I have not had a single person to talk to in real life that has gone through bad depression.

I have been seeing a doctor and I think it's time I reevaluate myself and my thought process. I have not read the thread for a bit and see new reply's, I'll take my time and read through it. I'm trying to collect any information I can. Millions of people get depressed each year and it's different for a lot of people. I do appreciate all the information everybody has posted.

You are definitely not alone. I've suffered from chronic depression for most of my life (I'm 39). I don't believe in anti-depressants although I have tried a few, which did nothing.

I can't tell you how to fix it or what works even for me. I recently got a kitten however and the depression isn't as overbearing like it has been in the last year, so I could advise to give a new pet a try (kittens rock).

It sucks to watch your life crumble around you and you just can't seem to get the will to stop it, even though you know how. It's a struggle.

There is also religion.

You aren't alone, depression is best battled in company, we got your back!
