Here's my trick...
When I want to buy something too big to buy in cash, but too small for a loan, I wait for the 0% introductory offer credit cards. Most of the time it's 6 months, 8 months, whatever.
I apply for the card, get it, and then make my purchase on that card. I then make even payments based on that (so $1200 on a 6 month card = $200 / month) and once the item is payed off I no longer use that card.
ha!
I just did somewhat the same thing with a newegg preferred account, purchased all my PC components with the 6 months of no payments, then just saved each month how much i would need if i was to cut it up into payments for 6 months and payed it off, worked like a charm and no outstanding balance or disgusting interest rates ( i think even neweggs service might be up to 21%, regardless of your credit score.)

You could try emailing Michael_Dell@Dell.com and voice your concerns

Never use Dell credit. Regardless of your credit record they will change over 20% which is lame.

Bought a laptop from them 2 years ago for $700 put it on autopayment and never looked back, till i noticed my payments had went up so i looked in to it. Come to find out my autopayments were coming out 3 days after the due date so i have been charged $40 late fees every month...!

I owe $1227 on a $700 laptop after paying on it for 2 years I called them ofcourse got the supervisor and was told the best they could do is to have me change the payment time and increase my payment and they would wave $100 of the late fee's!! [rofl]

I told the lady i coulda bought an alienware laptop if i knew it was gonna cost me this much. And that buying a laptop from dell was the biggest mistake i have made to date. She told me sorry to hear that best we can do is wave a $100 of the late fee's.

Just wanted to vent.. Yet i feel no better
You need to call back and yell more. Personally, I'd never pay that money. Just give them the fat middle finger and hope my credit is good enough to take the hit.

[shocked]

What interest rate is that on?
Probably the "rape me up my ass" variety.
