Despite being overweight and middle-aged!? As if this were unusual for opera singers![rofl]
He won a standing ovation from an audience and panel who have probably never seen Turandot before, so I wouldn't think it would take much to impress.

I'm happy the guy got his 15 minutes, and as I said he wasn't bad considering his background, but as to whether he will have any future in operatic repertoire I think a heathy dose of reality is in order. Unlike pop-singers, opera requires years of dedication and studying to master technique. If he chooses to take this route then I wish him the best, but if he thinks winning a television talent contest will instantly thrust him on the path to fame and success on the concert circuit then he's in for a rude awakening.
Read your sig and take a note.

If you listened to that Paul guy sing Opera and some Famous Opera singer, without knowing the background from which Paul comes from, you would be very hard pressed to tell that one of them was a nobody and just some "average Joe" from the street and that the other was a Professional.
That Opera guy was amazing, and unless you can sing equally as well then you have no right to criticise his flawless (imo) technique.

I watched that Black guy from London, Might be called Tony, the one who sang whilst playing acoustic guitar, the one who was looking after his brothers children, He was just stunning, what a brilliant voice, especially as it was a song he had wrote too.

Its not often that it happens, but I was moved to tears within a few seconds of hearing that guy sing, it was obviously very emotional and his words were from the heart.

I think quite a few of the audience had tears in their eyes, especially that judge amanda holden.

Its going to be very, very tough deciding upon a winner as there is so much talent that we have already seen and heard.

I should think even the losers in the final will get picked up by talent scouts and hopefully have their dreams come true.

OMG, that little break dancing kid with the reddish cap is always in Manchester market street break dancing!! [shocked][shocked]

Didn't know he went up for auditions and he got through to the next round. Just that he didn't actually make it into the semi finals.

Next time I see him in Manchester City Centre, going to applaud him!

Wow... That opera singer sure was damn amazing. One thing critics need to take into account is that he's very very nervous, thus his voice trembled a little ... For a first time in front of an audience like that it's amazing. :O

That show is pretty fun to watch, but these 2 backstage guys are freaking annoying trying to be funny all the time.

If anyone is interested, here is Potts "Con te partiro" performance:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDB9zwlXrB8

I thought he was amazing. Just a tad down in power but otherwise spot on for a guy his caliber.

I think this guy will bring more young people to listen to opera than Pavarotti. This performance gave me goose bumps as well even though I think his other was better. Went a little too low (notes) for his register in this one.
