I'm not looking for your favourite movie here, but the best DVD. What DVD you bought had every thing a good DVD should have, awesome picture quality, great clear sound, loads of extras (making off, commentary, alternate endings etc...)

I own all the movies i want to own on DVD, and I just spent an hour browsing through amazon but couldnt find anything. So I'm looking for ideas here. Regional code doesnt matter, as my DVD player is codefree.

Oh, and no HD DVD/Blue Ray recommendations please, I dont have the hardware.

i usually dont bother much about extras. i buy them for the movie.

i like dts sound though. and good picture quality

Well its not a DVD but its a boxset. The Alien Quadrilogy.

I got it for about £20 brand new, it has all the movies + their special editions, an extra disc full of bonus material and lots of other stuff.

First DVD I bought was Ghostbusters back in 1999 I think it was. It had trailers, deleted scenes, featurettes, directors commentary and a fancy animated menu system.

Granted its by no means the best out there, but I think that for the time it was a great way to show off the new DVD medium, and definitely spurred me on to go on a crazy mad DVD shopping spree from then on.

And i have alot of Dvd´s,..
having that said, i´d say Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Great movie, watched it atleast 30x by now.

I'd say Sin City.

Might not be the very best as far as extra's go, but it is the best looking DVD i've ever seen in my opinion.

Well, to me thats the whole point of DVDs. That, and that you usually have the original language on the DVD too. I dont care for picture quality that much, watching movies on my tapes is good enough. I dont have a home entertainment system anyway and wouldnt invest any money into that. I watch the movies in the cinema. So I dont own a single DVD that doesnt have any extras. Thats why I dont buy DVDs like Days of Thunger or Cannonball, even though I absolutely love the movies.

Seinfeld DVD extras are superb. Also BadBoys 2 had a lot of goodies as extras.

A Scanner Darkly and Casino have some nice extras (I've only seen the HD DVD versions but the extras are there on DVD too)

I'll put in my vote for this one. Incredible boxset, each movie is given such loving treatment with the extra features, they've all got as much time in documentary films as the film itself. Not to mention that each movie disc gives the option of theatrical or special edition.

The most surprising remaster for me has to be the original Terminator. I remember the quality of the originals and the reproduction for DVD was quite something. No extra features to speak of though, just a good transfer. This is a region 4 copy by the way.

A more recent one that surprised me with its visual quality was Crank. Maybe because the whole film is less than 90 minutes and there's nothing else on the disk to waste space, but it's probably the clearest looking DVD I've ever seen. Again, region 4.
