the government here owns the first 3 feet of your lawn and all the houses here have a tree exactly 3 feet from the kerb Honestly, I'd hang things from the tree. I'd get a few of those beige straw filled dummies and hang a couple of them. Maybe put some fake fruit on the tree or something. - In other words.. make the tree fabulous! |

What's even more amusing is that over here in the states there are laws, apply in all states I believe, that the sidewalk is your responsibility. So if the sidewalk in front of your home is icy regardless that its city property they will say its YOUR responbility and if someone slips and falls because you didn't shovel it they can sue you. Its really F'd up. Or your driveway too. Trespass on someone's property, injure yourself, and then sue. |

In the UK its the other way around, if we attempt to clear away any snow etc and someone falls then its our fault! so we just leave it [thumbup] I always figured hey, if its knee deep snow they won't slip! But yes, where I grew up we had this: Street------------------- Grass------------------- Sidewalk------------------------Anything above this line is the city's property, anything below is yours.-------------- Front Lawn------------ House------------------- However, any tree planted by the city had to remain unless it proved to be a source for ants, or other pests. So the nasty oak trees we had that killed our lawn because it provided no sunlight (had 3 large oak tree's, and 1 small sapling about 7 or 8ft high). Eventually we got the city to approve of us removing it, but WE had to pay for it. Which is pretty screwed up. |
