I just bought my first house. I am closing on it May 25th. It is outdated and I will be doing some updates like new carpet, paint, updating electric, etc. I was wanted to put in a home audio system for starters. Nothing too fancy, but that got me thinking more along the lines of lighting control and more. I can't do the full automated home because it will be hard to run the wiring in an older house.

So is anyone here currently using it. I have heard X-10 sometimes isn't reliable. Any comments? Any suggestions for books on the subject?
