Stupid, stupid comment made by Imus. Not funny at all. At the same time though, here's another thing for the media and Rev. Sharpton to make a big deal about. It really wasn't that bad of a comment, just not funny. People should be more angry about the bad joke than the words themselves. When will people learn?

Yeah but people in the public eye, especially those performing a public service are expected to uphold a higher standard. It's that simple.
Not only that, but ...

1) The guy is a pussy for saying that on TV, I am sure he wouldn't have the balls to say that to their face.

2) What he said can be easily translated to "******* bitches".

3) You don't insult people like that on MSNBC, especially using derogatory terms to describe black women.

IMHO those girls should fire back with some insults of their own. I feel everyone has the right to express their mind. If someone doesn't like what someone has to say, they should fire back with some nasty words of their own or just ignore it. They lost, so he said some crap about them. May have been harsh, but life was never meant to be easy. At least we have supermarkets and don't have to hunt our own food. I think people have grown soft. Next time someone robs a store we should help them carry the goods out. We wouldn't want to offend them by calling them any sort of rude name like "thief" or doing anything that might cause them any distress like calling the police.
Agreed.

I believe people need to stop worrying about what other people say. Its something simple you learn in elementary school. Ignore the bullies and rude people. If someone says something you don't like ignore them and ignore their words. Its not like he was advocating harming them. It was an insult and nothing more. If he had said "we should kill them and then litter the court with their corpses" I think there would be an issue. However, what he said was simply a meaningless insult that should be ignored because the man is obviously not worth their time. Regardless of how popular and public a person is if they say enough things people don't like they won't be listened to anymore. If I went crying every time someone said something I didn't like I'd never get anything done in my life. Instead, I ignore people who piss me off and figure eventually they'll screw up and be shunned by pretty much everyone they talk to or someone is going to get pissed and give him a good talking to. There's more important things in life than silly words. Things like cancer and aids.

To put things in perspective: Not only was I the smart kid in school. I was the teachers pet, the fat kid, I had red hair, I wear glasses, I'm left handed, I'm a ******* child, and I came from a less than wealthy family in an area dominated by upper middle class families. If I've survived to the age of 23, I think these people can overlook one simple verbal insult.

I agree that you have the right to say anything you want on a personal level as long as you are ready to face the consequences, but what he did is totally cowardly and no real man would ever do that.

I agree and disagree with you guys. Was it distasteful? Yes, definitely. Was it wrong and hurtful? Again, yes it was. Should it be this big of a deal though? Probably not and I definitely don't think he should lose his job over this. A 2-3 week suspension sure why not, but I'll be a little pissed if he gets fired over something so stupid.

It never ceases to amaze me that the entire world is falling apart at the seams, wars all over the place people dying by the thousands of starvation and strife but yet this stupid **** makes front page news around the industrialized world. I think the world should grow up a bit and see this for what it was, a stupid mistake, and get on with more important things. The guy already apologized for it and has promised to change the direction and format of his entire show. People that want to see him strung out and his life ruined over this are a little heartless IMO. It's funny how the people who most want to see this guy apologize and what not are also the most heartless cruel people who can't find it in their hearts and minds to forgive him when he does.

But he WILL face the consequences of his actions. He's going to lose the respect of a very large amount of people. That can destroy the career of a public personality. If you displease your audience they turn their backs on you, which means you lose your job. The more he does to piss off his audience, the more he puts his job in jeopardy. Plus, there's going to be a lot of not so nice things said about him, and probably to his face. When he goes shopping or anywhere in public people will know who he is and know the crap he's said because it was all publicly broadcast. There's not a doubt in my mind he'll get back what he's given out tenfold.

The only thing that can make things even is if the girls have a chance to meet with him and respond to his remarks and then, hopefully, kick his ass.

Imus should have retired 20 years ago. He is such an old bore now.

I agree. It was a bad move, especially in public, but its not that big of a deal. People call each other names all the time, and yes this was one was a bit racist, but it could have been so much worse. The whole double standard thing is what is annoying. Black people say it all the time, yet anyone else is immediately called a racist for even thinking it. If it is so bad, NOBODY should be saying it.

My 2 cents.

I saw a short clip of this on TV. Overall I really couldn't care less, but one thing really struck me. Some famous preacher guy going on about how this guy should be fired or resign for his comments...

Shouldn't he be thinking more along the lines of forgiveness? The guy apologized, I'm sure he's fully aware of what kind of dick comment it was by now, and I'm sure he's sorry. Why make the guy give up his whole career for one stupid comment?

Maybe I didn't watch enough of the program, I didn't click any links either, so I might just be uninformed.

The "preacher guy" (i suspect Jesse Jackson) is by far a bigger joke. Anytime something happens to an African American, he is all over it like white on rice (yep, pun intended). I can't belive people take him seriously anymore, but they do...

Anyway, this comment was nothing. I mean, who cares? The only reason this is making ANY news is because it was aimed at a "minority". If he had called a team of white guys a pathetic bunch of crackers, people would have laughed, and moved on. But no, because it is "racist", it is being played by the media, and people make too much out of it.

Racism is alive in this country, but not by those who it used to be associated with....

Why does anyone care? This is Don Imus we're talking about. [rofl] His ratings have been in a slide for years now, and this is probably the kick out the door that he needs. I'm surprised this even made the news, considering how few people actually listen to the guy on a regular basis compared to other radio personalities.

Actually, I think he was referring to Sharpton. Despite his marital infidelities, Jesse Jackson is one of the most respected leaders of the civil rights movement. As a community leader and diplomatic politician, he's done incredible service for his country. He draws the ire of conservatives because of his politics, as did Martin Luther King Jr.

If King were alive today he'd probably still receive threats and ridicule from members of the white middle class. When was the last time a conservative leader fought for the civil rights of minorities?

Its all so sad. Imus said something so stupid he should be whacked on the head, but I cant really believe he did it with malice.

I guess it would depend on what his record is with this type of thing.

So. He has hurt some feelings with this, and just as he has a right to say what he wants, others who feel hurt/offended have a right to make thier positions known as well.

In the end, Inus should/will be smacked good and hard, and then we should all move on. Are there not more important/serious things than this that need attention?

He said a bad thing and I reserve the right to call him an idiot.....

But again: can we move on now?

Because the guy working his ass off in an office building to meet the weeks deadlines is where the injustice to minorities is from! (Thats implying that there is some sort of inequality).

Get over it already. OMG the worlds going to end because Don Imus called some girls nappy headed bitches OMG run for your lives! I bet you wouldnt hear hardly anybody complain if Jessie Jackson slipped and called white people Honkeys or something.

OR lets make a movie called black men cant dribble and watch how many black people picket the movie and cause a stink. I have black friends and we tease each other about the whole race thing and even they agree that alot of black people take things way out of context and go overboard when any kind of race topic comes up.

GET OVER IT

This is why I love Howard Stern and Sirius radio. He can say what he wants when he wants to and nobody can say anything about it because it is not free radio.
