Here is an interesting article.

http://www.kansascity.com/182/story/66339.html

and another view with a look at a much more serious problem.

http://blogs.usatoday.com/oped/2007/..._the_outr.html

Had another link from ESPN, but they moved it to the insider section.

Also go to CNN.com and watch the video titled double standard. Imus is a shock jock, but if he has a sack, he would have apologized for offending, but not for his comments. It was a joke ffs. An off color joke, ( no pun intended) but he has been making fun of people for 30 years. I am not a fan of him, but the media hype got him fired.

Because this is not as much of a political issue as it is a social one, thus it is in General Discussion.

[rolleyes]

After reading the thread, I happen to disagree. I'm sorry if I sound like a jerk, but I just have a problem with political discussions continually popping in the General Discussion forum. Usually I don't say anything, but when it crosses beyond the pale from time to time (as it has in this thread IMO), I just think I should speak up.

But, I'm not going to argue the point further. The mods will either move this, or they won't; it's that simple.

i pretty much agree, as this belongs in the "mature discussion" section. IMO.

If he worked for me, I would have fired him. I do support free speech, but when you are backed by a company, your speech is not all that free.

The people that I think come out as the biggest dicks in this... MSNBC.

They are firing him because he lost advertisers, they did not fire him a week ago, when the same things were said, and the same outrage was voiced, but now that they are going to lose money he is gone. I think that says a lot about the company. It's too bad nobody will notice this, and really call them on it. He is fired, so it will be viewed as good, regardless of how and why it happened.

I fail to see why he should be fired. He is a radio host, if you don't like what he says, TWIST THE DAMN DIAL AND DONT LISTEN TO HIM.

The radio show I listen to every morning would have the hosts fired too if anyone gave a f*** but they dont, so get over it!

But he is talking about something so sensitive as race and gender issues. If he was talking about Yankees vs Mets, and he said he likes Yankees and you like Mets, then yeah, change the channel. It's not appropriate at all to call girls Hos if you're an ancor or a TV personality. Imagine Bill O'Reily calling a guest on his show, let's say it was Condoleeza Rice, a nappy headed ho. He would get fired immediatly, and I don't see why Imus doesn't get fired just because the girls aren't Secretaries of State.

Yep. You beat me to tha' punch. He's finished. All those years he has put into his career and it all ends like this. I would probably be In total shock, and probably not to stable right now if I was him. I hope the people who really care about him are watching him closely.

Freedom of speech is a nice fantasy, but it doesn't really exist - despite the lip-service we like to give to it in the United States. Just ask Bill Maher - and now, Don Imus.
I haven't really been following the story; is the Government firing Don Imus and locking him up?

He has a right to say just about whatever the hell he wants. If his listeners don't like it, they have a right to stop listening to him. If advertisers don't like it, they have a right to stop advertising on his program. And if his employers don't like it, they have a right to get rid of him. It does not get more free than that.
