Default UK Insurance Group Revamp!
Insurance groups are being revamped over the next 6 months or so, instead of being out of 20 as it is now, it will be out of 50. Personally I dont think this will affect anyone who currently has a car that is in groups 1-19 at the moment as it will be mainly to differentiate between different cars in the group 20 category, though some cars that are group 15 now will just up ALOT and will be basically branded equal to group 20 cars now, BMW X5 for example.

Anyhow, have a read for yourselves and search the database (which is incomplete at the moment, especially for older cars) and see what your car is going to be changed to.

basically multiply your existing group by 2.5 and you have your new group

Not true, my mates car is a group 5 and is to become a group 10. Seems its based on security (The groups: D means poor security, A means satisfactory and E means exceeds security).

Seems to be good but will prob just rob us of more money.

I'd interpret that as being good, as currently your over half way whereas 25 is half of 50 .... see what I mean?

Mine goes up to group 9 from group 4 (Pug 206 1.4LX). Mind you I hit 30 this year, so it won't affect me too much if any.. [thumbup]

Er what?

My Honda Jazz is from group 3 to group 12. [shocked]

Group 12 E T2

E = Exceeds security requirement for a car of this type and the group rating has therefore been reduced. (e.g. A group 9 car where the security requirement exceeds Thatcham’s minimum standard for that group will be listed as an 8E.)

T2 = An immobiliser that has been judged to comply to the Thatcham criteria.

Guess it's not that bad....but damn sounds like it's going to be more expensive. As if £1700 isn't expensive on a frickin' 1.2 .

This is frickin' ridiculous. My friend's 1.6 Sport is like group 13 after the changes!

I might as well get myself a 1.6 it'd be better!

No idea what mine is going up to. My car is currently insurance group 5 (1997 Renault Clio 1.4 S Maxim MK1). However judging by other Renault Clio's on the site (the MK2 for instance, where parts like engine were barely any different from the previous model on the early MK2's), they seem to rise to about 11.

Good enough I suppose.

Kinda Harsh...

If I was concerned with having money, I wouldnt have my RX7. I am in fact someone who loves cars , and I am paying more than I should to drive my dream car.

saying that, I really should get something *Cough* sensible

My Group 5 Mazda 3 is going up to Group 15, it's for E security.

Curious to see what this means for my insurance.
