Soo... this is what I am looking for.
I want a test that truly compares trucks neck and neck. Chevy Silverado 6L Vortec Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi Ford F-150 5.4L Triton GMC Denali 6.2L Vortec Toyota Tundra 5.7L iForce Nissan Titan 5.6L Endurance Honda Ridgeline 3.5L I think it would be cool to have a test were all these trucks have like a 4,000lbs payload with a 6,500lbs towing load. Do 0 to 60 speed and braking tests, and 40 to 70 speed tests. Maybe even some handling and safety tests. Then maybe even after that max out the payload and tow load with each truck to see how they perform under 100% maximum stress. Does anyone know if there are tests out there like this? Cars get tested against each other, SUV's get tested against each other, but where are the trucks? |

I am thinking about contacting a few magazine organizations this weekend to see what they have to say, but you would think that they would have already thought of this and have had been testing already for several years.
F-150 I think is still the number one sold vehicle in America, and trucks are sold like crazy around here even with the gas prices, so you would think that all the truck people would be raving for some tests to at least compare the best American trucks against each other. |

Thing is, the Corporations don't want those kind of tests done by an independent company or person. Consumer Guide is a great example of an independent company putting all models from all makes through a daily drivers test. They get people to go in anonymously to purchase a selected vehicle, they go putt around in it for a bit and then tell what they think about it. |

I dont know why that is , must be a rave or something we have a fleet of trucks and the ford is the weakest, even in 4 wheel drive it wouldnt pull our boat out of the water without struggling, believe it or not the titan pulled it out 2 wheel drive no problems. Now OFFROAD is different the f-150 smokes all others , dunno. All of our recoveries have been done with a FX4 250(ford) and most of the stuck vehicles have been tundras, titans and even a pathfinder.Gas mileage gos to the tundra |

The new tundra is making a stir in the market, but I hear the handling is ****. A huge improvement over the last tundra still.
The titan was a blast to drive, I love that truck. I would have gotten that over my 07 Frontier but the frontier turns out to be a mini version of the titan. My frontier has been marvelous, excellent power and comfort. The 4L V6 in it is a great one, raced an F150 w/ a 5.4 and killed it. I was suprised. Racing trucks is fkn stupid though. I've always liked ford trucks, I owned an 04 F150 w/ the 5.4L had great power and a smooth ride. But I didn't like the rear end of the drive train. Had to take mine in for service twice and I never hauled anything over 2,000lbs. [no] I've yet to drive a dodge, I love their CTD line, amazing trucks. And I have not driven any chevys besides the colorado. Which I think sucks as a truck. I don't do much off roading, actually none. I use trucks for work and such. But I'm sold for a while on Nissans line, a Nismo Titan would be my choice. I want to drive the new tundra and see. |

The motor in the Colorado is supposed to be poop. Uses the Inline Vortec and if it isnt the I6, you still get a lot of power, but it is way up top and way too high for a truck imo. Colorado only uses the I4 and I5 which have some nice numbers, but you only get those numbers well passed 4,000rpm which is way too high imo.
Looking around last night, it seems like the Tundra comes in first and then the Silverado comes in second in terms of power fallowed by the Dodge Ram for Medium sizes trucks. For the small sized trucks like the Frontier, Tundra, Colorado, ect., ect. I was surprised to see the Dakota basically spitting on everyone with its HO 4.7L V8. The Frontier is the closest, but still not close enough. GM seems like they might be firing back here at Toyota soon though. They got this new 6.2L Vortec that has 403hp / 417 lb.-lbs torque. After finishing my searching around, Ford really needs to upgrade their Triton motors. Extremely underpowered compared to all the competition. Should at least offer a supercharged motor in the mean time or something. Surprised that people are still getting these instead of a Chevy or Dodge. |

Yea I had driven the I5, pushed me away from that truck entirely. The ram is a nice truck but I feel it is only good with the hemi. Otherwise....why would I get one?
wow chevy is going after them, though it has never been hard for chevy to make power when they want it. ![]() I forgot about the dakota, it is a nice truck. The mitsubishi raider sucked ass imo, didn't like anything about it. Engine included. The tacoma seemed rather lackluster to me. TRD included. Ford has been behind in power for sometime now, but they have so many return customers that they don't seem to worry. They are releasing an "FX2" iirc that is a s/c F150 but it is more along the lines of a lighting than an offroad truck. There is always the F250 with a V10 triton, but when you go that big go diesel...and def not powerstroke. |

There is always the F250 with a V10 triton Just looking around Ford, I think that Ford should drop their 4.2L V6 in their F-150 line. Make the 4.6L the low end, the 5.4L in the middle and have the 6.8L their top end. Just looking at an F-250, the base model comes with the 5.4L, but for ONLY $600 more, you get the 6.8L V10. This could be HUGE for the F-150. A little less horsepower then the 5.7L Tundra, but you have 56 ft.-lbs more torque plus the additional 2 cylinders to have the only truck in this competition range with 10 cylinders. Plus they would then most likely offer the 5-Speed Auto and 6-Speed manual as the baseline F-250 offer these with both the 5.4L and 6.8L. |
