Default Benefits and Effects of Computers
Hey guys! Well I noticed how everyone is so into computers and tech stuff out here and talk about it all the time. But no one ever has bought up a topic on a "realistic" level. I just have a question as to what everyone thinks of "Computers"

What do you think are the benefits of computers, and what are its effects(negative and postive)

Here are some example topics that you can mention. I want to know how people feel about it.

Jobs (create or risk peoples jobs)
Privacy
Permanent Underclass
False Information/Plagarism
Pornography
Potential Disasters
Pollution and Environmental Degradation
Etc...

Feel free to voice your opinions and or facts.

I love computers (i network them for a living) but I have noticed some negative effects on society:
-Less socialization (more people are opting to surf the net rather than talk with their family, friends, or neighbors)
-Less exercise
-Exposure to everything (porn, violence, etc.)

Don't get me wrong, I think overall they are great machines with a lot of benefits as well.

I found this interesting coming from a user registered to day with no post. You noticed huh?

I been around since Madonion Days... years and years ago... Just so happened I cant log into my old account. Anyway, I do browse around, and often pass by here as it remains to be one of my favorite sites.

Back on topic though, 99GSX, I do agree how it has affected society and social behavior of many. Those were some good points.

One I was most intrested was the topic on Permanent Underclass. I had a cusual conversation with my friend the other day on that. Will first world countries with knowledge of computers continue to flourish, while the slower(3rd world) countries plummet to the point that they(the people) will become obsolete? It was kind of funny when we talked about it, but its unfortunate for those that do not have the knowledge base that most people that live in 1st world countries do.

BTW... It doesn't make me a lurker just because I like to read what people have to say on current gadgets and such going around in the market. Im just interested =_)

My benefits and effects:

Positive:
-Large knowledge of hardware and software now
-Fix my computer and others myself
-Stay connected with anyone anywhere
-Increases my patience skills [rofl]

Negative:
-Very expensive hobby
-Always wanting something better
-No phone communication with friends anymore

I'd have to say that the biggest thing I regret about being into computers is how much money Ive spent on them over the years. I've never had the absolute top end gpu when it first comes out but it has still added up to a lot.
