I think more will know it by the name "Mosquito"
How many can actually hear or have the official ones? Original quote: The 'unofficial' version of the tone reaches a frequency of 15 kilohertz while the official one reaches 17 kilohertz, making it less audible to adult ears. So they're not actually ultrasonic but are within the upper audible limit for humans, Ultrasonic is exceeding 20,000 Hz/ 20 KHz, within the territory of dogs etc, - basically the current are completely useless, i'd doubt if there's anyone who couldnt hear them, except for the elderly maybe I appear to have found some at jamster but they appear to be nothing but extremely annoying crap ranging from 16,000 Hz to 18,000 Hz Here - you just have to click on whatever you want to preview and click the preview button in the new Window. No purchase necessary Note: They can be quite painful for some im sure, I actually have a slight pain/uncomfortable feeling in my ears now Basically for the general population if you thought the current ringtones were annoying, these "new age" (dont have to annoy adults crap) will piss you off even more. Here's an article i googled and quoted from: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...icle674022.ece |

This is the whole basis of his business though isn't it? Plus he's fairly well known for it and seems to have some pretty happy customers. The research seems to suggest that your ability to hear those frequencies drops off quite early in life and I can't hear the 18Khz file and I also haven't been able to hear the official samples of his "mosquito" deterent either. ![]() |

These tones annoy me. Well, the ones I've heard. can't visit the jamster link from work. My parents and "older" family who are in their 40's couldn't hear the high pitched tones. Some of the ones I listened to annoyed me. It felt like I had some sort of uncomfortable pressure on my ears. I've only heard them used once in public, that I know of. I played with some on my cell and quite a few just weren't loud enough, or the cell phone speaker couldn't play the tone loud enough or properly. You could hear it if you were holding onto it, but if it was in your pocket or on your belt you would never hear it.

My friend and I both listened to the three tones and at first we thought we could not hear the 18k at all... However, with everything else quiet in the room, we did hear it (barely, but it was there).
We are both 21 years old, and it seems that we are both fairly close to losing the 18k in our hearing. It could have been the speakers. I was just listening to it on my toshiba laptop speakers. I will try it on my klipschs to see if I can hear the 18 more clearly. |

I already made a thread about this quite some time ago....for some reason I called it the Invisible Ringtone.

I remember a few years ago when I had my ears tested the doctor played a sound which wa sgradully increasing in frequency and told me to tell him when I could not hear it anymore... I told him to stop at 28,000Hz. Of course he did not beleive me and said I was making it up. So he made me do it again, and again, and the same thing... at the time I had no idea what I was doing was out of the ordinary. But then I had to go through 6 months worth of continual study so they cold figure out why I was able to perceive such high frequencies... eventually I told them to leave me alone.
Maybe I am a Hero, and should be a character on the show. [surrender] [rofl] |

Here is a site that has tones upto 25kHz http://www.ochenk.com/entry.php?id=63 There's something a little off though. i saved all of them and played them again. i can hear up to 24KHZ, going back to the web based recordings i cant hear past the 21Khz+ I tested the web based samples on my family and all can hear up to the 20KHz, including my father who is around 45, none of us can hear the 21KHZ unless i save it and play it on the computer, then all can hear up to the 24Khz one |

I can hear up to 21k. I tried it on my dog, he can hear the 25k clip. Before you ask how I did it, I just played on ethat I could hear to see his reaction, then played the ones I couldn't hear and he gave the same reaction. Pretty cool knowing that my dog can hear something I can't. (of course I've always known it, but it's cool to see it in action)

Can you damage your speakers by listening to these? I get popping right around 20hz. That must be what you get for buying cheap 5.1's. [no] And Popping noise constantly or a click at the start and near the finish, if its just the clicks that normal? More than likely your speakers may be within the frequency response range but whats more important is for them to be able to reproduce all the audible frequencies at the same volume at which they were recorded. If not then try maxing out the gain and be careful not to deafen yourself. It wont sound like the original recording but you'll get something |
