Default So my neice tried out for American Idol...
She just turned 16 and has been singing professionally for 3 years. She made it to the 3rd interview and then the guy told her that she placed in the top 50 out of 10k but he wanted her for "next year".

While I agree that she should wait until next year it makes me question the contestants they let through. Steph didnt even make it in to try out for the real judges. So evidently they allow people into the auditions just to have somebody to make fun of on national TV.

I just hope she puts the next year to good use, She has been doing too many country covers and has developed an awful twang and some other bad habits. She also could stand to lose about 50lbs. But she has a great strong voice and good stage presence.

If youre interested in seeing and hearing her sing and about her experience in Seattle go to the link below and scan down to where it says "American Idol Hopeful Shares Her Experience"

The local news did a couple of nice interviews with her.

being a musician myself, i can guarantee you that american idol has nothing to do with music.

they either need you for comical value, or because you fit the "someone would want to **** him/her" model for a pop star... nothing more.

Yeah..I know that. We only watched because we knew Steph flew out to Seattle. I guess I just didnt realize how big of a joke it was until she went.

She is going to keep trying..who knows...maybe it will get her somewhere further than singing in a band that consists mostly of relatives with her granny (not from MY side of the family) hopping around the stage showing her ass. Steph draws the crowds and they trail along hanging onto her coat tails.

i had a friend in high school that was going to do that, but in all the paperwork they have, she said how it stated they can basically tell you no because you dont look like an idol or whatever... so she never went through with it based on principle. she might have done well too.

She has a great voice, but maybe she needs some English lessons, or is that how everyone talks there?

Thats how her dad and his parents talk. They are total hicks

I am hoping to talk her mom into a voice coach for her. Her grammar needs serious help too,

No offense (and as you already said it yourself) she definitely needs to lose weight. Not only will Simon use it against her, but America will also - if she makes it on the show that is.

I really see potential in there though, so you should make her keep along with it and the other things you mentioned. Good Luck to your niece! [thumbup]

Wow it all makes sense now... That's why so many of rejects seem so sure that they will make it. They have already passed 2-3 rounds of judging beforehand so they think they are a shoe in. In reality though the producers let them through to the final round of judging with paula/simon/randy just so they have some material to make fun off when the episode airs. Man that's cruel.

Translation.....we have enough people this year but you're fat enough to make fun of next year.

Please come back and bring that great accent with you....great material there.

American Idol (or whatever Idol equivilant internationally) is for singers who want to be the entertainment, not the entertainers.

Very sad indeed. Fame comes from hard work and skill, not getting your face slapped on TV and getting the crap bagged out of you for kicks.

I watched some 2 hours of American Idol last night (from seattle), and it was some of the funniest TV I've seen in my life. It's scary how many people think that because they can sing really badly in the shower they have what it takes to become the next "Pop Idol".
