Simpsons are still great........all you older peep who grew up with it.....along with me...

Have found that it's "boring" these days because they are not as nasty, sharp,or stupid..

I've got the first 5 seasons on dvd.....but the last five have been just as good(just different).

Ill take your place in line when the movie comes......don't worry....[rofl]

The show was always family oriented......the shows you all compare it to...are just gross outs for adults with super sharp stories.......as in Mel Gibson.Cruise or many other on South Park...

But they DO NOT compete with each other.

Family Guy was Fox's South Park.........Futurama was a combo.....and American Dad is a clone of FG.

Quit bashing Simpsons cause everyone else does.......jeesh....
I don't like the recent Simpsons, but because they are trying to be too much like southpark/family guy IMO, but missing everything that makes those shows interesting.

It's like they decide in advance that certain things have to happen in an episode (e.g. celebrity appearance) and then design the rest of the episode around them. Plus the fact that they keep on doing different combinations of the same basic storyline doesn't help. I don't know about everyone else, but there is only so many times I can care about Homer trying to get Marge back.

Original Simpsons was very different, each episode actually had a point to them, rather than just being a collection of seemingly random events.

Futurama had the quality that the Simpsons really lacked; i still hate Fox for killing it..
Loved every single episode of Futurama, best in it's class imho

I haven't watched the Simpsons in ages, although it used to be my favorite. These days if I watch TV I am going beyond broadcast TV. The shows that I'm going to start watching are "The Dresden Files" on Sci Fi and "Extras" on HBO.

I dont get whats great about it? although does Realtime mean its running live or something?

and like most people here, I too think that after season10, Simpson went downhill, but I guess thanks to it, Matt Groening managed to create another masterpiece show Futurama.

Realtime episodes means that there is no editing to cut down events over several days into 30 minutes, the narrative within the show takes place within that 30 minutes.
Its not that impressive when animation does it really, its a lot better when live action goes for real time as it means the actors have to act through an entire act with no stopping or editing.

Actually in case of 24 it plain simply means that the 60 minutes the episode lasts (with ads) are equal to 60 minutes in the world portrayed by the series. The actors act just the same as they would with a normal show though, as it isn't recorded in realtime.

Yeah they kinda played with the meaning a bit on 24, since its more TV realtime than actual realtime. And one hour is 44 minutes, I assume the ad breaks are when the characters use the toilet, eat a sandwich or put their phone on charge.

Some examples of realtime episode are Friends "The One where they all get ready to go to Ross's awards thingy" (probably not the episode title) there is an episode of the X Files where S&M are on a boat (note the use of split screen at certain points in the episode, sure the 24 producers were watching) South Park "Terrance and Philip Movie Trailer" episode and obvious choice is the any live episode of a TV show (ER...umm...other stuff).

You are wrong, Jack Bauer never has to use the toilet.

Fake edit: Ever.
