Default For those of you with your A+
What did you use to study for it? I have about 10 weeks to prepare myself for the test, about 2 hours each week.

You should not need books for the A+ if you are of any worth. No books for me and I took mine 7 years ago, bet I can take it now and do just as well.

Well i have been wanting to do it now for a few months..Been online, registered and downloaded the various course and exam objectives but have no idea where to go from here..Apparently there is a sylabus change from 2003 to 2006 very very soon so I dont know whether to wait and enter the new sylabus. Also what do you do from here anyway? how do i get on to do the course and take the exam...it all seems a bit vague to me

It was a few years ago, but I don't remember studying at all, except reading the MadOnion forums lol. Just made an appointment and took the test.

i dont do the self learning, i go to classes. because im doing it this year, it is the older sylabus based on win2000. but yeah there is a sylabus change next year thats obviously geared up to winxp and newer tech more. one thing i dont know for sure is that when i do the second year of the course next year will it be new or old sylabus (im guessing old).

Just grab yourself a good A+ book that covers both hardware and OS. The test isn't hard, just dig into the books and try to get a PC you can study on.

I didn't study, not for a minute. I just went and took the tests.

But I've heard it's an adaptive test these days so I couldn't comment on the modern test, but the pre-2000 one was easy as pie. The only remotely challenging questions were to do with number of pins on specific connectors (Printer Serial, COMM, and so on).

It all depends on how much you already know.

I'm currently in an A+ certification course. prerequisite for my degree.

Here's a list of books if you really want to study
http://www.course.com/search/default...A%2B&submit=Go

Also. According to my teacher. The A+ tests have changed recently. There is no longer just the hardware and software tests. but there are now levels to the A+ certification. Some of the levels I know about are either for IT technician level or customer support level. As well as non-technical levels of A+ certifications.

Edit: found this site that describes the new levels of A+ certification.

I'm going to take my exams in the next few weeks, hopefully. The only thing I'm worried about - which my reading material seems to place heavy emphasis on - is knowing how to do things every single possible way on multiple operating systems. What I mean to say is, while I can find my way around 98 and 2000 easily enough, the book seems to nitpick the most obscure details (i.e., maybe you go about doing it the same way but the name of one little thing happens to vary).

Exams are different now, you take one Essentials Exam, and take either one of THREE exams. (All if you want to pay for them)
