Default My own software has been cracked ??
I made StarChartGl last year and put it on the internet as shareware. Just out of curiosity I did a search on Google for StarChartGl today and most of the pages are cracks for it.

I don't suppose theres any point trying to get the websites to take the crack down, well I suppose this means its popular if somebody has spent the time to crack it.

I don't know weather to be annoyed that people are pirating my software or happy that my program is popular and people are using it.

Yeah I would have thought that a program had to be reasonably popular for people to go to the effort of cracking it.

Hell, if it's so good maybe I ought to download a cracked version.

Modify your software to make those cracks useless or go down the open source route

Yeah, thats why I'm asking.
Plenty of fake and real warez sites that return hits on any and all searches that have crack, warez, serial or other rez catchphrases in it or some of them that return hits on pritty much every shareware application you can imagine while having nothing.

When you do searches for say "Alicia Moore" you even get links from those types of sites sometimes.

Yeah. I love that. Googling something and all you get are warez and porn sites. Those kinds of sites need to gtfo my internets. Sick of wasting time reading through site titles to find something even remotely close to what I'm looking for. If I wanted that kind of crap I'd specifically search for it.

If you're not making much money on it right now, its probably better that way. Gets your name out further, you could use donations as a excuse to expand the software when it reaches a certain level.

Or you could start selling it on CD only and use Starforce protection [thumbup]
Just kidding there, I think donations is the way to go aswell. Make people see the effort it takes do develop such a thing and maintain it through a small text on the website. I'm sure you can handle it. Best of luck.
