Seemed like he was doing it intentionally. [thumbdown]

Because it's fun, that's a lot of bad driving on display in that vid...it's really not too difficult if you maintain a steady,*slow* speed and don't go slamming on the gas or the brakes.

The Outback (next to last car) would have been fine if they wouldn't have started accelerating like a jackass, and notice the last guy gets around the turn fine, apparantly he knows how to drive...unlike all those other people.

The road appears to be solid ice with a little snow on top = no fun. The Outback tried to go slow but his ass was sideways and when he got it straight he was going too fast. He wouldnt have made it either way IMO.

I bet that hill is a lot steeper than it looks in the vid. Look how the red minivan accelerates sideways.

The last car was coming down the road and turned left into the side street. He avoided the worst spot where everyone else got in trouble.

The outback isn't going fast until after he straighetns out, then he appears to hit the gas, probably thought it would stabilize him..which is of course, the wrong thing to do and just as bad as slamming the brakes on.

If you go slow, keep the car's weight from shifting around, don't jam on the gas or brake and have decent tires then driving on ice isn't too awful until you get on really steep embankments...steeper than that.

The last car in the video, which goes right through the area where the second car goes completely sideways and gains a lot of speed, proves my point perfectly.

Wrong, the last car pulls in the same road the Outback came out of. The second car was already past that point.

I did miss that, still doesn't change the surrounding facts about driving on ice any though.

And as you can see the AWD Outback,of which I own one ane can vouch that it's good on ice when driven properly,is struggling pulling out of there,so it's definately slippy, but that presumably rear wheel drive car goes right around the turn into that street quite easily due to preper driving techniques.

Yup, AWD will only be useful if you don't out-drive the tires, which is still very easy to do on ice.
And maybe the other car had winter tires or chains?

I have seen this vid so many times; even on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Hope that school teacher who shot the film gets something for it. I live further down the Willamette Valley from Portland Oregon, and no news of such events in my area. Even though we had snow, sleet, ice, I guess we're better drivers. [thumbup]

WTF at the first car [no]

In fact, WTF @ ALL the cars. Looks like they are using summer tires in winter (and a third WTF @ that - they must simply be idiots, or suicidal).
