Yes, there were crappy bands in the 50-70's too.. but we haven't had any top bands for YEARS. Also, live bands have been getting worse ever year because of all the computer crap.. Also as there are less innovating things left for bands to do or sing about then there are going to be less "top bands" it is inevitable, when they innovate then they find them selves with a smaller fan base as some don't like it and can be "top". The main problem is the fact that there's only a certain number of ways you can sing about lost love, life is terrible, life is brilliant and my girl is it. It gets old. |

Concerning the other thread, I think choosing 1 song a decade is ludicrous. How about forgotten gems? Albums as a whole are more important than individual songs- actually it boils down to some of the major problems of today with music... an ADD type mentality. I think this ADD music playback, eg: 1 song from 1 artist then the next which is facilitated by being able to play songs individually as opposed to in the intended sequence of an album is also due in part to music today. 1 or 2 hit songs, the rest of the album is pure crap therefore nobody listens to albums anymore. They aren't art, they are engineered to be popular and the rest is fluff to justify selling an album for the same price or more than those of the past. Music died sometime in the middle to the end of the 80s as music changed from art from artists to product from pawns. (there are some exceptions, of course, but come on the number of bands with phenomenal output in the 60s and 70s just dwarfs any from any other decade).

I think choosing 1 song a decade is ludicrous. How about forgotten gems? Albums as a whole are more important than individual songs. My thread isn´t about being "politicly" correct, or making everybody happy. I could also easily name atleast 20-30 songs pro decade (if not way more) that should be in that list, but i didn´t, i just asked for 1 pro decade. that´s all i asked for love it or leave it ![]() |

Peter Christopherson is famous, just not in places where you tend to look, very prolific too...from making video's (Nine Inch Nails Closure, most of the video's are done by him),to creating literally hundreds of works of music since the late 70's. And yeah who could ever forget 20 Jazz Funk Greats? |
