Right a quick question, to give a little more flexibility to my home setup.
I've taken a 300gb harddrive and dropped it in a IcyBox (usb2) rather than having it inside a machine (my divx box), leaving it on permanently with it shared. As some of the network is on 54g wireless and transfers are painfull. Now I can swap the drive arround at will. However, is there any easy way to have it always accessible by all the machines no matter which PC it is hooked up to at the time, without having to reconfigure for IP changes etc...? For example, I'll be accessing it mostly from my macbook, but it'll be attached to a PC. If I then move the drive to another pc say for a backup I'd then like to be able to seemlessly access it from that other pc. A NAS would have been a good solution, but then I get stuck with really crappy transfers all of the time to the wireless machines. I know it'll mean I'll be accessing it over wireless at some points, but it being directly connected up to a machine is what I want. Any ideas? Anyone got any thoughts? |
