Default I need a new car!
I've got about £8,000 to spend max on a new car. I want around a 1.4l engine, that'll do plenty of miles to the gallon, and i'm 6ft 7 so something with a bit of leg room although i do like my smaller cars rather than large. I've been looking at the new Suzuki Swift, but i'm unsure. Any recommendations?

I can highly recommend the Corsa SXi 1.4 as my wife has had one from new, but most people on here dislike them because they are "chav" cars apparently [rolleyes]

Yeah, that's what i've got at the moment. A 98 plate 1.2. I do like Corsa's although i don't think i want another after this one, i would like a change.

If you're tall and want a small car, go German. Polo, Corsa, whatever. But they have very tall chaps over there so they do build their cars adequately.

Well if you want something different, you could always go for one of these:

(It's a convertered MR2).

The good thing about it is that because it is classified as a kit car, the car insurance is a lot cheaper.

The new Swift looks nice.
You could also check VW Polo/Golf or SEAT Ibiza.

chavied up corsa yes.

I dont dislike normal corsa's but you do tend to have girlies and questionable male people driving them

you could get a reasonable deisil car for 8 grand anything up to 2.5 ltr and the economy would far outstrip a 1.4

Those things are cool. Maybe even the scion xA if they are out over that ways. Those things are really nice too.

All that I know that would be out there that I would want is a Golf/Jetta/Passat with the 1.9L TDI.

I'd say go for a VW Golf. Excellent cars, great range of engines, and I reckon you should fit into it pretty well! [thumbup]

Get a TDI [thumbup]

Why do you only want a 1.4? Is it insurance or running costs?
If it's running costs then a Golf or Audi TDi would be good! Vectra's and Astra's and Modeos too i suppose

If you want something small (6ft 7?? You need something big ) then a Polo or a Corsa maybe?

WHat about a Ford Focus

I think you can get a Mitsubishi Lancer for around that much. Great cars, I love mine! I have the OZ Rally edition, and it was only $16,500 loaded back in '04 if my memory serves me well. The standard version should be a couple of grand cheaper?

This is what i want eventually. But i'm only 22, insurance is a bit steep, as i've only been driving 6 months (lazy i know). Which is why i want to keep the insurance down for a few years till i'm 25 then i could go for a EVO or S2000.

To be honest you really couldn't go wrong with the new shape Ford Fiesta diesel. it's a 1.4 diesel, it has a lot more poke than a 1.4 petrol, it's very cheap to insure, gets excellent mpg, low tax, it's a nice drive and for a small car there's plenty of room.

People try to put ya off by saying 'it's a ford' but you'd be a muppet to discount a good deal based solely on the manufacturer that makes it ford to make decent cars. You'll get a fairly new one for £8,000
