Default Sex change for prisoner
http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/04/health...html?hpt=hp_t3

Not only does the average low income American not have decent healthcare, but good luck finding the time to go to the doctor. And yet here's a wonderful article about someone with a gender identity issue getting state funded gender reassignment surgery after being sentenced to life without parole.

I bet hard working tax paying Americans are thrilled that after working a 60+ hour week at a crappy job just to survive someone who killed their wife gets medical care for something not life threatening when they can't even go see the doctor for real issues.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, this is America after all. Giving a free sex change to a murderer makes more sense than giving basic medical care to a hard working family.

A B-2 Stealth Bomber costs nearly $1.5 billion to build and maintain. ($1 billion to build + other costs)

If you had a job making $50,000 per year it would take you 30,000 years to gross $1.5 billion.

If you're really worried about taxpayer money being spent efficiently then you're off target here.

I tend to agree with this - the proportional costs of the odd prisoner getting this kind of treatment is tiny compared to what is spent on other crap. Same as tax loopholes cost 2 - 3 order of magnitudes greater than welfare cheats cost us.

But... they don't generate the same frenzied "OMFG" headlines and reactions.

Scale doesn't matter, this shouldn't happen.

Lots of things shouldn't happen. Why highlight this? Because it gets people all united and angry about something that, in the big scheme of things, isn't that important.

Mostly because being in jail is supposed to be a punishment, not a wish fulfillment excersize.

^This

Why would we be footing the bill for sex change operation for a man who is going to be spending most of the rest of his life behind bars because he took another person's life?

Hard working American family? Go die of cancer you lazy scum.
Murderer? Here's your free sex change, anything else we can get for you?

The biggest issue is that this man/woman/whatever is only receiving this operation because of being in prison. There are tons of hard working people out there who need medical care and can't afford it yet an elective procedure like this is going to be given at their expense to a murderer.

And yes, I also agree that our defense spending is absurd. A lot of things in this country as absurd. But does that mean we should just ignore these things because they're small?

Heck yeah, front page news right next to the Honey Boo Boo video.

What we need is a viewpoint from the other side of the fence. Any transexuals here, pre or post op want to chime in?

RNC was last week, why would CNN cover it this week? Just saying.

Rainwind, there are surprisingly few places this could actually happen in the US. Basically, NY,Mass, and Cali. 2 of those states are already imploding.

As to the stealth bomber, it was the nail in the coffin of the USSR. They were already headed to the grave (with the US pact with Saudi Arabia to keep oil prices low) but that bomber shut the door on them. It put the US generations ahead of them and gave 1st strike capabilities. It would take an awful lot of sex changes to accomplish the same thing.

http://www.usdebtclock.org/state-deb...ebt-clock.html

look at the debt to gdp ratio... you don't want that number above 20. Compare it to say California. Whose number is 18.9, or Tx at 17.x. Then factor in property costs in Mass, the shifting of jobs, cost of living and the already high taxes etc... and well, the future is not bright. NY's is pretty scary too. Though that financial district, if it all doesn't move to NJ, ought to help reverse it.
