Default Universities in the South
It seems like there are a lot of members here that live in the South, and I have a question I would like to ask regarding schools in the Southern region of the U.S.. After going to school in Oregon for a year and a half I have had enough with the uber-liberal mindset and need to transfer, ideally somewhere in the South. Right now TCU is my #1 but Clemson also looks good, as well as a few others who's names escape me at the moment.

I guess my question is really what your guys' opinions are on schools in the South, pros and cons of any that you know of/attended. Any input is greatly appreciated.

school is what you make it. I say that because I travel to many universities. I help with trash and recycling programs.

list of where I have been/worked/met people of the top of my head

*usc
*asu
*uofA
*UGA
*LSU
*Miami University
*Georgia Tech
*Uni. Tenn.
*Ohio State
*Texas Tech
*Baylor
*Alabama
*Florida
*Florida State
*Florida Int. U.
*Auburn

not counting the smaller schools either. This is off the top of my head. Only thing I can say about the south is the Southern Hospitality does live still. I really loved that part about the south.

You wont like Clemson if your coming from the West Coast it will be like culture shock.
Fla St would be a good school IMHO.

Depends on what you're going to school for.

I've been to a few of the Universities in Florida (currently attending one of em). You can't really escape the liberals at a University in my experience, but I have had Professors who were fairly centrist in their teachings despite their political leanings. Plus the girls in Florida are some of the best looking you can find and the weather is great! Good luck!

Figure out what you want to do. Transferring to UF and sometimes FSU is difficult no matter who you are. UF is great, but not much to do there. The mentaility of UF students are... "We are better than you". I was accepted into Nutritional science at UF, but I denied the acceptance. FSU consists of great parties and beautiful women. I don't hear much about FSU unless there is a state game going on. UCF is awesome, If I wasn't at USF I would live there. USF is great and practical. It's in Tampa, so there are a good amount of things to do. One of the top public research universities too. It is also near the beach. FAU is a solid choice, I have a cousin who goes there. It's pricy to do certain things. You will be around a lot of people with money.

Pretty much like I said, find the school that fits you academically. Then once you do, visit them in order.

If you consider UCF beware...I lived in Orlando and the weather is absolutely miserable 9 months out of the year IMHO. Too hot and too humid and it rains EVERY DAY. Hell, I'd start sweating just thinking about walking outside. Screw that.

I think the biggest factor in what kind of students youre going to have in your classes is going to be your major. What is your major?

UT Austin all day baby! :headbang:

High ranking, amazing teacher, chill students, lots of places to go (not that you'll have time to go anywhere because you have to study), really cheap (12+hrs=$4900...my friend took 19hours of math and engineering and only paid $4900...insane! He also made all A's O.0), they have 2 gyms (but I personally go to Gold's), many great things for their students, they are just all around awesome!!!!

Seriously you will love it here. Plus it's Austin...

Southern schools are a good idea. What are you studying?

IMO, go to where you'll be most set (educationally) to succeed afterward.

You're there to prepare to make money. In the end, that's ALL it's about. Focus on that, and let nothing distract you. Also have fun of course.

College is fleeting. Success vs. Not Success, is something you'll have to live with long-term.

If all you care about is more "conservative" type thinking, good luck: universities are meant for sharing and thinking about ideas, not left or right thinking
