HEROES P.K. Subban – The Canadiens defenceman put up a goal and two assists in a 6-2 win against Los Angeles Friday. Subban now has 13 points (5 G, 8 A) in his past 14 games, a span during which he has maintained his team-leading 53.7% Corsi. Nicklas Backstrom – Washington’s playmaking centre had a hat trick in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Tampa Bay. They were Backstrom’s first goals in 10 games, but he still has 14 points (4 G, 10 A) in his past 11 games. LW Alex Ovechkin and RW Tom Wilson each had two assists; Wilson has four points, all assists, in the past four games. Kris Letang – The Penguins puck-moving blueliner scored a couple goals in Saturday’s 4-3 loss to Columbus. Letang has eight points (4 G, 4 A) during a five-game point streak. ZEROES Flames forwards – Joe Colborne (1 shot attempt for, 13 against, 7.1%) and Matt Stajan (1 attempt for, 9 against, 10.0%), who had missed so much time early in the season, were stuck in the defensive zone in Friday’s 3-1 loss at Pittsburgh. Brandon Bollig (0 attempts, 8 against, 0.0%) was at the lowest end of the shot attempt spectrum. Erik Haula – In just 6:57 of even-strength ice time against Arizona Saturday, Haula was on for one shot attempt for and 18 against (5.3%). Red-light district: Martin Jones – Surrendered six goals on 20 shots against Montreal Friday. It’s the first time in his career that he’s surrendered six goals and first time this year allowing more than three goals in a game. Anton Khudobin – Gave up five goals on 23 shots against Florida Saturday and the Hurricanes goaltender had been riding high with a save percentage of .926 until this year’s .892 mark. He’s also winless in nine starts. Ryan Miller – Allowed five goals on 23 shots in a 5-1 loss to The Rangers Saturday and he’s stuck with a miserable .900 save percentage this season. BLACKHAWKS-BLUE JACKETS SWAP Jeremy Morin – The 23-year-old winger didn’t have any points in 15 games with the Blackhawks this season, but he’s managed to be a possession ace (61.7%) since the start of last season while playing mostly a fourth-line role for Chicago. Morin does have something of a scorer’s pedigree, however, scoring 55 goals in 117 AHL games since the start of 2012-13 and should get an opportunity to play in a scoring role with the depleted Blue Jackets. Tim Erixon – A first-round pick of Calgary in 2009, Erixon had played 70 NHL games with the Rangers and Blue Jackets before getting a new start in Chicago. He’s been a third-pair/spare-part defenceman and the Blackhawks have a number of those – David Rundblad, Klas Dahlbeck, Adam Clendending, T.J. Brennan – looking for playing time since Trevor van Riemsdyk got hurt. As it is, Erixon should get a decent opportunity to play regularly in Chicagos top six and he can sink or swim based on that performance. LINEUP NEED TO KNOW Sidney Crosby – The face of the NHL is now more swollen as Crosby has officially been diagnosed with the mumps. He heads into his quarantine with no goals and two assists in his past five games. Zdeno Chara – Boston’s difference-maker on the blueline returned Thursday after missing 19 games with a knee injury. He’s not in prime form yet, but having him available to eat up minutes will help the Bruins’ beleaguered defence. Mike Green – Washington’s puck-moving defenceman returned Thursday but played under 18 minutes in his first two games back. In 21 games this season, Green has played fewer than 18 in seven games, five of them in the past six games. Derick Brassard – Has been diagnosed with mumps, but after a pair of assists against Vancouver Saturday, has seven points (2 G, 5 A) during a five-game point streak. Mike Cammalleri – The Devils forward played only 6:57 Saturday at Dallas before leaving with a lower-body injury. Rob Klinkhammer – Recently acquired from Arizona, Klinkhammer moved up the depth chart to play with Evgeni Malkin and Blake Comeau Saturday. Ben Lovejoy – The Ducks defenceman returned to action Friday after missing six weeks with 21 games with a broken hand. Stephen Weiss – The resurgent Red Wings forward suffered an injured shoulder Friday, then missed action Saturday. Travis Morin – The productive AHLer (24 points in 23 AHL GP this year) is getting another chance with the struggling Stars, and was effective on a line with Erik Cole and Curtis McKenzie – all three with better than 75% possession with more defensive zone starts – in a 4-3 win against New Jersey Saturday. Sam Gagner – Arizona made Gagner a healthy scratch Saturday. He has 10 points (3 G, 7 A) in 29 games this season, on a career-low scoring pace (0.34 points per game). Chris Phillips – The Ottawa Senators changed coaches and that changed the approach, as the veteran Phillips, who had been playing 22:22 per game – his most since 2007-2008! – was a healthy scratch for Saturday’s shootout win at Boston. Ryan Suter – Minnesota’s workhorse blueliner, who leads the league with 29:27 time on ice per game, played 33:47, and recorded two assists, in Saturday’s 4-3 win at Arizona. Suter has the second and third-highest single-game ice time totals this season. Ryan Ellis – Nashville’s blueliner has taken on a bigger role, especially recently, as this top five single-game ice times of the season have all come in the past seven games, with his ice time ranging between 21:37 and 24:25 during those high points in usage. Robyn Regehr – The veteran rearguard played a season-high 25:33 against Toronto Sunday. Paul Stastny – The Blues’ centre played 12:43 Saturday, in his return to Colorado. It’s been a disappointing start to the season for Stastny, who has 12 points (7 G, 5 A) in 22 games, his lowest scoring rate (0.55 points per game) of his career to go with subpar (49.7%) possession. SHORT SHIFTS Stars C/RW Tyler Seguin had a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 4-3 win over New Jersey. He leads the league with 23 goals and 38 points after scoring 23 points (16 G, 7 A) in the past 17 games…Rangers LW Rick Nash had a pair of assists in New York’s 5-1 win at Vancouver Saturday, and had another in Sunday’s 2-0 win at Edmonton giving him 12 points during a 10-game point…Blues D Kevin Shattenkirk recorded a goal and an assist in St. Louis’ 3-2 overtime win at Colorado Saturday.
