I had hoped this might remain an olympics free zone, one of the few places we could escape the media driven frenzy.

I just found out about an incident that took place in Kent. Apparently, while a Polish runner was carrying the torch, someone from the crowd attacked her. Heard anything about it, Teddy?

Yes, but not as serious as it sounds Mat. The assailant came out of the crowd and tried to grab the torch. The runners are surrounded by a team of police who run with them. She swerved aside and the police wrestled the man to the ground. Just a blip in the proceedings, nothing serious.

Yes, I have now seen the footage. I have to admit - the police reacted on the spot. I guess incidents like that are bound to happen during the Games.

I was thinking of visiting London this summer but because of the Games the price of the tickets went so high I had to give it up.

My cousin in America suggested I "pop up there and see some of the events"
He has no idea

I will be sending many positive thoughts towards London for safe and peaceful Games for all of those involved.

@ Mat and Teddy, What are the lowest prices for an admission ticket to one of the venues, or do they vary depending on the event one wishes to attend?

10 metre diving is listed at Ł589.00 but includes hotel
Athletics final plus 3 nights Ł899.00
Tickets for the diving have been on sale for Ł30 to Ł50 but apparently have a restricted view.
Tickets to the womens football will be sold at Ł20 because of poor attendance despite England beating a little island in the South.
Tickets for the opening ceremony are going for between Ł1000 to Ł2000

There are reckoned to be over 500,000 unsold tickets out there, despite local people being unable to secure tickets when they were first issued, but when you see the prices being asked then it is hardly surprising.

Below is an extract from the TELEGRAPH

Last year Lord Coe, the chairman of London 2012, said tickets that had not been sold by other nations should be given to the British public to help meet “phenomenal” demand.

But the tickets, including thousands for main events such as the opening ceremony, swimming finals and gymnastics, are instead being distributed on an internal sales system to sponsors.

The scheme will anger hundreds of thousands of people who have been unable to get tickets for the best events.

Baroness Doocey, a Liberal Democrat peer who is scrutinising the Games for her party, said: “It’s absolutely disgraceful. The principle is completely wrong —there is no way that ticket returns should go to people who have already been incredibly well catered for. They should go to the long-suffering public and especially Londoners who have paid for these Games for the past decade.”

In July last year, Lord Coe told foreign national Olympic committees they should return unsold tickets to Britain.

The o lympdick security eejits have already started exceeding their authority, a photographer was stopped numerous times taking photos in East London this evening, not that close to the stadium, "Oy you can't take photographs 'ere " this on a public street where there are no restrictions!, one even tried to confiscate his monopod as an "offensive weapon!"

He showed them a printed card stating photographers rights, some of them left him alone after that but the one after the monopod wanted to call the police, so the photographer said go ahead, security man finally gave up.

Actually a nice hefty monopod would be ideal for "here we go gathering nuts in May!" (OK so it's a few days late for May).

I have just watched the finals of the men’s Judo under 65kg and couldn’t get the hang of it although being fast and furious the scoring remains a mystery?? This was not helped by the poor diction of the woman commentator who kept yelling “he has a stain in front” I was perplexed and looking for blood etc and then my wife said she means, “He has to stay in front” core blimy

There is no excuse for poor commentary in these events. I do not expect to watch an event in England, and be unable to understand the commentator. I would not expect the Australian events to have a commentator with a strong Scottish accent for instance. I am sure there would be an outcry if the listeners could not understand it. Apart from England most countries use staff with an accent which can be understood by the inhabitants of that country.

That could well have been a publicity stunt Colin. The big scandal is empty seats, estimated at 50-60000 thousand a day. Mainly reckoned to be down to overseas dignitaries. All the tickets recovered from touts up to now have been from that source. Frustrating for people who wanted to attend and also for those taking part to do so without a full crowd to cheer them on.
