I'm not a transhumanist, try to shave my neck well, and have never been in a cubicle. I just find fashion boring, a field largely dominated by the pretentiously silly--and there's a limit on how much self-expression one can have when wearing articles produced in bulk to follow various popular trends. The whole idea of "fashion" is to follow what's hot this summer, or this fall, or whatever. It's possible to have one's own distinctive style, largely by going nuts on thrift stores and other places where a wide variety of styles are available. But even that is largely a women's thing. Men's fashion really hasn't changed much in the past couple of decades. A buttoned shirt is a buttoned shirt is a buttoned shirt. Maybe the collar changes, or the color, or the fit. But not much, and you can always find something tastefully restrained that won't look out of place no matter how times change.

To that end, I keep some nice dress shirts around for when I need to dress up; I select them for attractive colors/patterns, price and comfort in no particular order. Otherwise I just stick to plain ol' t-shirts or polos, and I'm not even too particular about what's on them.

Dude, Cintas facility services suck! I don't recall too much an issue with their uniforms, though.
We have good service from them! Every week, without fail!

Do you see a lot of people around Philly wearing those clothes?
Depends on type of people. But does that mean I should just dress like how everyone else does?

I can imagine the type of people in Philly who dress like that But that aside, you've come to Poly to discuss fashion? I mean, seriously, look around you...

This summer I'll be wearing the same khakis, jeans, and t-shirts I've been wearing for the past half dozen summers. Are those in fashion right now?

What about the fit on the button downs? I've never seen a button down that fits me without being huge. I've gone to stores and tried some on but no dice. Need a European cut or something.

what you are looking for is moccasins w/o shoelaces. shoelaces w/o socks - looks retarded. socks with shorts - looks retarded.
It's a Talking Heads lyric... 'Houses In Motion', I think. David Byrne rocked the geek look, but then with him it was ironic. I hope...

Adapting to summer is easy for the gentleman.

The suit ceases to be dark wool, and becomes off-white linen.

The twill shirt is replaced by the poplin shirt.

The black derby shoes are replaced by brogues in reddish brown.

The Fedora is replaced by a Panama, and the job is done.

Well, if Al were British, I'd say okay, you're right. But on this side of the pond...ehhhh. I mean, I know straight guys who like nice clothes, but mostly they're just ambitious types who like them as an expression of personal success/power. I.E., the Perry Ellis/Ralph Lauren suit is nice because it says "I could own your ass," not because of line or color or anything. Actually getting into clothing isn't really a straight thing in any part of America I've been to.

Also, most of the shots Al posted make him look like the Easter Bunny's gay cousin or something. Sober up on those colors, man. We're not birds--bright colors are for female display.

It's possible that there are genuinely straight men who are into that kind of thing. All I'm saying is, they're a definite minority. Most of us care about clothing to precisely the extent that it will get us laid or promoted.

American men have no interest in fashion because we aren't as gay as our European counterparts.
I guess it's also like how it's a likely gay minority of men who exercise

A lot of straight men exercise. They do sports, they have active jobs, or they just sigh and say, "damn, guess it's time to go to the gym." Similarly, plenty of straight men take the trouble to dress well. It's when they get excited about getting in shape, or busting out the flashy colors for summer, that the gaydar goes off.
