Sadly, there is also a racial component to the sensationalizing of this incident because the old lady was white and the children slinging abuse at her were black children. Most of the media has rightly avoided the racial angle but several right wing radio shows and websites have been playing it up for all it is worth.

The moral of this story is that multiculturalism leads to attacks on innocent old ladies. Attacks on innocent old ladies leads to lots of money raised. IIRC, bus monitors are there to keep students safe from other students - preventing fist fights and all that sort of thing. So by focusing all the negativity on her, she actually was doing her job because other students weren't being bullied .
