An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect at least through Friday. The all time hottest June temperature in Kansas City recorded history is 108° in 1934. We will likely make a strong run at this record Thursday as the western and central Kansas air heads our way. As you can see it was 115 degrees in Hill City, KS Tuesday:



Here is the 7 day we showed on the 10 PM newscast last night. Meteorologist Brett Anthony updated it this morning, tweaking the highs a bit. He lowered the 107° to 105° and he may be right, but I believe we will have highs between 102° and 111° across much of our viewing area on Thursday:



That western Kansas air will be forced our way later today and tonight and temperatures will get out of control without a cloud in the sky and with a nice westerly to southwesterly breeze on Thursday. The heat wave begins today and we are forecasting 102° this afternoon. This is the beginning of what will likely be a rather dangerous heat wave. The biggest dangers will be to the elderly, people working outside for long periods of time, and to our landscaping. I just looked at the latest GFS model and I really don’t see any chance of rain for a long time. Once the heat builds in it will be hard to move out. If we do get a cold front in here we can hope the heat gets pushed way out of here, but more likely it would get pushed to our south and west and just come back in as the pattern shifts back into the building ridge. There is some potential for some tropical easterly flow making it this far north, but I don’t see this possibility at the moment.

People really are spoiled here. If the temp gets above 75 then the local news talks nonstop about "the heat wave" while if it gets below 65 you see folks bundling up like it is winter in Antarctica. Kind of funny really.

Don't even get me started about how every time there is a light sprinkle the local news does their "STORM WATCH!"

Here it is a paved area with cover on three sides. Basically, a garage without a garage door. Yeah, they suck but when I bought back in 2004 (at the height of the bubble) all I could afford was a 1450 sq ft place with a two car attached carport though it is in a nice neighborhood close to the beach. If I was to buy now I could easily afford a 2000 sq ft place with maybe a three car garage though the lot size would still be 1/4 acre or less unless I moved further from the ocean. I actually want to hold on to my place and put a nice cash down payment on a second house (where I would move) while renting this place out when the time comes.

It's hilarious at our house. As we get older the wife is always hot and wants it set lower, and I'm always cold so I'm wearing a sweatshirt in the middle of a heat wave. (which demonstrates who has control of the thermostat in our house)

I'm like Aeson. Never had A/C. Why do you need it?

We'll be in the high 90's this week in Philly which is typical. I honestly have no need or desire for A/C. I even go running in the heat.

I think people really are pussies. Sorry, but unless you're elderly, I don't see how you can't handle 90-100F and need an A/C.

As someone whose family has been in Canada since the 1700s, I disagree.

I can handle the cold, but I'm definitely not built for heat. You're the opposite.

It's not a matter of not handling it. I can survive without it. But why? It's much more comfortable to have it. And the cost of it isn't very high at all.

You may think 82F is fine, but I think it's hot. But similarly, 40F is T-shirt weather for me. I don't even consider a spring jacket til it dips below freezing. Somehow I think you'd find that uncomfortable.

Oh yeah and Asher, I did OCS in the winter. They cracked the ice and sent us through the water.



Dozens of guys had hypothermia.
