Default President Obama Announces Support for Gay Marriage
I hate to say it (I agree with same sex marriage), but for those who rail against Romney for being a flip flopper, Obama is no better on this issue. Spare me this "evolving on the issue" stuff. There is a quote from 1996, where Obama says he's for same sex marriage. His views "devolved" when he was running for state Senate and continued to 2008 when he was against it. And then when public opinion shifted the other way...

Though it is a good thing that he finally declares for it, seeing as how that appeared to be his position since 1996, but decided to lie about it for political purposes (how is this different from Romney now?)

I'm simply pointing out the hypocrisy of those who go on and on about Romney being a "flip flopper" (heck some said it about McCain in 2008). Do you acknowledge the same about Obama, or are you a hypocrite yourself?

Well then that's fair.

I just had a conversation with a friend who said Obama is a political pragmatist, but Romney is a flip flopper & if Obama changes his view in favor of rights, he's ok with it (but he'll still go after Romney for changing any of his views).

"Well, if that is the way the political winds are blowing, let no-one say that I do not blow."

Good to see a continuation of the proud MrFun tradition of a massive copy-paste related to gay rights, presented with minimal commentary.

Yeah, before that he only supported civil-union rights. Like the CEO who just yesterday was discussing "dynamic workforce adjustment," but now all of a sudden he's talking about FIRING people! Whoa, where did that come from?

So President Obama has announced that he personally supports same-sex marriage, but believes that it's still a matter for the states.

Congratulations, Mr. President; your many years of soul-searching have brought you to the public position that's been held for a number of years by...Dick Cheney.

Coming up next: President Jefferson announces his personal opposition to slavery! Stay tuned!

Does this mean anything? Sounds like he's supporting the status quo (leaving it to the states).

Obama didn't need a lesbian daughter to come to this decision. Actually the "ONLY" thing I admired about him. Even with his daughter, I'm sure it wasn't easy publicly supporting that.

Yes, Obama "flip-flopped" on this issue by switching from the slightly bigoted civil union position to the non-bigoted same sex marriage position. This puts him on the same level as Romney how....?

So what is it, people? Obama changed his position or did he intentionally mislead the American people the past several years?

Hey now. Don't spoil Imran's whining over Obama's flip flopping into a positive direction.

As a flip flopper on political issues. I think most people believe he was for same sex marriage but argued against it (and in 2008 he did say he thought marriage was only between a man and woman) for political gain.

So he's a liar? Thanks.

Obama's personal views were probably always in favor of gay marriage.

I support all those rights which no one has any notion of yet, because I'm afraid history will look back on me unkindly for failing to recognize the obviousness of something nobody has realized yet. I'm just playing it safe.

Obama already flip-flopped on public campaign financing in the previous election, how is this shocking?
I'm just curious about those who want to hammer Romney constantly on flip flopping (as an activity, not on the positions he ends up with).

They're either Republicans who haven't accepted that the primary is over or they're stupid. They should hammer him for being out of touch and for being a Republican who supports religious nutjobs and rich men.

People on my facebook feed keep praising this. Where was the praise for Dick Cheney?

Oh wait, Dick Cheney is Hitler and Obama is Jesus.
Obama is a usually decent person who declined to support the right thing until now for political reasons. Cheney is a monster who supported one good thing. Why should they be treated the same? Cheney supported torture for goodness sake.
