Yes.

If you want more info on graphics cards try:

www.tomshardware.com
www.anandtech.com
www.sharkeyextreme.com
www.hardocp.com
www.avsforum.com (more consumer electronics, but they have some computer stuff there)

When you want to order, I usually use
www.pricegrabber.com
to look up prices and
www.resellerratings.com
to check on the reputation of the retailer.

Good luck!

(BTW, when you go to these places, READ the forums first. Your question here is very very uninformed and will not be received very well if you just plunk it down. The important things are not just the vid card, but what kind of graphics port your machine has (AGP? PCI? PCIe?), what processor (no sense in putting performance tires on a Pinto...), how much memory, etc etc.

The game you are mentioning SAYS it needs a 6600 MINIMUM. That pretty much means it will play bad with that low a card.

the 8400 is better, but, like I said, read up a bit.

The game isn't going anywhere. No need to rush and buy it tonight if you don't HAVE to!

Just so you know:

Intel "Pentium". The P4, I believe, is a single processor chip and is not very fast. You will get some hangup there.
Ram will need to be upped to at least 2G.
PCIe is what you need for most vid cards. You are set there.

Will it work with 720p resolution with my Panasonic 32" HDTV ??? Look to see if you have a VGA cable attachment for your TV. 720p resolution is actually quite low (computer wise) so it will not be a problem with your card, you just have to make sure there is a way to hook it up.

And 521M? I guess you typed too quickly (512M)....

Check the game manufacturers site.

They usually give Recommended and Minimum specs.

I have a question.

If a game requires a 2.4 GHz single core processor, what does this mean for someone with a 2.26 GHz duo core?

Depends on if the game CAN use a duo.

I have my E6600 overclocked to 2.7Ghz (by going into the bios) and I have not had any real problems with it (except my memory seems to run hot since I added an extra 2G).

You might see a bit of a slowdown whenever you have a lot of different things happening at once. That can almost be an advantage on some RTS (Real Time Strategy) games as it kind of lets you know when a large movement is coming in (you get a lag burp when the IT decides to mobilize a large force or when your opponent does the same.. although the latter used to be controlled more by the internet speed....)

Hope this helps! If it doesn't, try posting the game, and your machine stats and maybe I can help (or look up what you are trying to find...)

Go for the first FEAR. The sequel is not as good as the original.

I mentioned before that I had a Pentium Duo E6600. I overclocked it to 2.7GHz and it still runs cool enough, but the memory is running a little hot since I upped it from 2G to 4G (Windows XP 32bit only sees something like 3.4G of it though).

The vid card is the HIS 4870 512 meg card, and it runs pretty nicely. But it also runs HOT and pretty loud! (I really hear it when I take the earphones off in-game!)

The games I am playing right now, mainly because of the teamplay are:

Team Fortress 2
Killing Floor

But other games I mentioned to you are also good. If you like running around killing mythical beasties, I would also recommend Morrowind and Oblivion (basically Morrowind 2). Each should, if you like to explore, take you about 100 hours to fully travel.

As for Team Fortress 2, get "The Orange Box". It comes with a LOT of extra games for quite a low price (Half Life, Half Life 2, Portal, Counter Strike.......etc).

Have fun!

The free to play Battlefield Hero game is a blast (its technically in "beta", but "beta" keys are available EVERYWHERE).

Kind of cartoony graphics, so the req's are pretty low for a modern shooter.
