Pysched for the Olympics/Para ? Aside from the atheletes who compete I cant possible see how any could be ? But , hey thats just me.
Because it's a massive event taking place not far from me, and I've really got into it.
No, the problem is how judgemental you are being. Do you see these people judging you for going to York on your own? The fact that you are looking down your nose on people enjoying themselves in a way you don't understand says far more about you than them.
Why don't you ask the police or the staff at your local A&E if I'm being judgemental. The people you say are "enjoying themselves" don't give a stuff about the people around them.

The fact you could even compare me going on holiday alone to people getting plastered is ridiculous.

*sigh* We have already covered this. These are the idiots that can't handle their drink. As usual, you are seeing everything in black and white and lumping everyone who likes to get drunk together. There are literally millions of people around the world that get incredibly drunk with their friends at the weekend and cause no bother to anyone.

He was pointing out that most people look at you for going to york by yourself the same way you look at people who drink. The difference is, most people do not let drinking get out of hand though you look at them all as if they do, while people who go on vacations by themselves, typically resemble you.

My real and genuine point is that I consider people as judgemental as Bungle to be far, far lower down in society than someone who gets drunk with their mates and goes home happy.

It genuinely turns my stomach to talk to someone with such ignorant viewpoints.

he really is missing out. 2 pint in half an hour then cross the street and he'd be good for the next 2 hours of the event. Alcohol heightens senses and emotions. He would care far more than he does about these events, and have more fun cheering for them. Horse and dog races are pretty damn boring, but 2 beers changes that quickly, and I have never really thought of Bungle as someone who cares for sports, which is akin to dog and horse races to me.

If they're drinking so much they get drunk it is out of hand,

Why you two are even bringing up my holidays alone (which many other people do) in this conversation I have no idea when it has nothing to do with anything.

It turns my stomach to talk to someone who thinks public drunkenness is something to be proud of. Maybe when you've grown up a bit you'll see my point of view.

I can't believe how detached from the real world you are. It is genuinely staggering. I imagine a lot of your colleagues get drunk from time to time. I guess they are disgusting people?

Actually it does the exact opposite. Alcohol is a depressant.
In excessive quantities, Bungle. 2 pints is not considered excessive to anyone but you and blue haired grandmothers. The crowd noise would be louder, your excitement would be greater, it would heighten the experience and the imprints those experiences make on your brain. Not 20 pints, 2.

It's you who are detached from reality, my friend, and blind to what goes on a Friday night.

Anyway it's too late to carry on this pointless argument....

I don't know anyone who gets drunk on 2 pints. I drink 2 pints, when I want to.

Bungle, while you are sat in your mothers basement varnishing her toenails, or whatever the **** it is you do on a Friday night, I am out and about. I have already acknowledged that there are a lot of idiots about that can't handle their alcohol. Here we have a perfect example of bunglevision. You cannot and will not understand that some people can handle their drink and have a jolly good time and some people are idiots and make a show of themselves in public.

You have obviously been brought up to believe that there is only right or wrong, and no degrees of separation in between and that is a great shame.

Let me put this to you very simply.

Some people are an embarrassment and shouldn't be allowed to drink for their own or anyone else's safety.
Some people get drunk and you would never know unless they took a breathalyser test.

It is becoming very clear why you are still in a junior position at a local authority.

Do you even know what the meaning of tipsy is? It is not drunk, by definition. Drink 2 pints in half an hour and you will discover what tipsy is.

We're not talking about people getting a bit "tipsy" after 2 pints, we're talking about people consuming pint after pint after pint and then probably puking in the street.

What is wrong with you Bungle? Your opinion is basically the same as saying that everyone that goes to York must be going to shoot a welshman with a bow and arrow.

I am laughing out loud at this one. Wow, it sounds so random, but it probably has a reference. I do not want to know the reference.

It's a bastardisation of a couple of archaic English laws.

It is still technically legal to shoot a Welshman with a bow and arrow in Chester and the same goes for Scotsman in York.

There is an art to drinking (knowing what to drink and how much) that men like Kingsley Amis and Hitch mastered but most people never learn. I enjoy my share of tipple, but I have no doubt that heavy drinking is a cheap form of entertainment. I don't look down on it, mind you, but I'm aware that it's usually the last resort for evenings when you have no plans. Undoubtedly, someone who spends his free time going to museums, building model ships, or gardening (that's what you brits enjoy, right?) derives more satisfaction and fulfillment than those who prefer getting sloshed with mates at a venue that plays shitty music and serves overpriced drinks.

Incidentally, York seems like a rather nice place. I wouldn't mind visiting.

bungle there's a big difference between pleasantly drunk with friends and having a nice evening out and going out on the smash and causing all end of trouble.

example:

the military is the the latter, there's been loads soldiers arrested out here for drunken disorderly picking fights with locals and generally causing havoc in the local area and have been sent home as a result, their attitude is **** yeah lets get smashed...

I don't drink bitter, but in my experience people like to drink it slowly hence why you say you don't get drunk, lagers are different it goes down to easily ,most of the lagers these piss-heads you talk about, drink Stella which is too strong for some and after 3 pints most are already on their way to an alcohol fueld rampage that ends with a stay in A&E.

Colchester is bad for binge drinkers and violence but hey its full of para's-go figure-- actually anywhere there's a large military presence there is always trouble. its the drinking culture, plus immaturity and peer pressure.

but what I've mentioned above is not limited to the military civvies do it too.

its nice to sometimes let go and get drunk, but it depends on who you get drunk with that matters and sets the tone of the rest of the evening

Alcohol, in large quantities, tends to accentuate people's personalities. If you're an ass, you'll be an even larger ass while drunk. Shy people tend to be more social because they really want to be when sober (but can't). Most disorderly drunks I've noticed are the cubicle working 9-5'ers. They are so pent up with their mundane routine that any chance they have to escape reality leads them into a beer-drinking extravaganza. I tend to only hang out with people who can handle their alcohol. Babysitting a drunken retard is the opposite of fun.
