Here's a thread or two that might be of interest:
According to the posters, the issue is with how Windows handles Steam while shutting down. Steam I guess takes some time neatly packing up its data and putting the chairs on the table before locking up, but Windows is impatient and won't give it the time it needs, simply killing the process instead. When it starts up again, it sees the mess left behind the previous night and tries to clean up, but doing so requires an internet connection so it can download whatever files are suspect or recheck and corrupted data. If it can't, it exits. Sounds promising, i always shutdown Steam manually, especially since the Steam Cloud uploads can sometimes take a minute or two to complete, so i never leave it running when i shutdown windows, mainly because Win7 shuts down so fast and doesn't give Steam time to do its thing. Maybe that's the difference? |
