I wouldn't really say what the cop did was reckless because that is fairly common for cops to do. Just pull a uturn. Very reckless though to over pass 2 semis and a car all at once, especially when they are already slowing down for some reason.

Yeah, I agree with this and this was my first instinct. My very first and only crash in a car, was doing exactly this. Overtaking slowing traffic, only to find it was slowing because they were letting a truck I couldn't see pull out and make a right turn (this was in the UK, so left side driving). I managed to virtually stop, but still made a mess of my left side headlamp. I'd had the car for less then 2 hours... and was 19 at the time.
