A sequel would detract nothing from the original. I also doubt that Ridley and Co would want to create a sequel that couldn't do the first justice. Blade runner has its place in the hall of fame of films.
With the amazing VFX that are possible today a sequel could look stunning. Prometheus will be a film where the VFX adds to the films tension, atmosphere etc. It's VFX done "correctly" like in Hugo for someone like you EaG. Blade runners sequel could be the same if not better?

Both Fancher and Scott are involved, it should be good and I'm sure they're aware of what they need to do to make it a worthy sequel.

Doesn't really mean that it should be good but at least we know that it's in the right hands.

I'm not too concerned, even if it's a crap sandwich, it won't have any effect on the merits of the original.

At least it's not a damned remake.

I have mixed feelings about this. While Blade Runner is one of my favorite films, I don't know if I would like a sequel.

They've got some big shoes to fill to make a sequel worthy of the original.

What's wrong with that? Didn't Alien have a female lead?

Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with this. Looking at Harrison Ford's more recent films, I would say we lucked out here.

This sounds dumb, why not use one of P.K.D.'s other stories and make an original mov...oh yeah, they don't do that any more...who has the time for new ideas?

I like how the beginning of your posts talks down about them writing an original story in the Blade Runner universe, and then in the middle of your post you say they should just use another PKD story, and then at the end of your post you talk down about them for not using original ideas.

Oh, and if "they don't do that any more" then explain...

The Adjustment Bureau

Many on your list have already been done, quite poorly as compared to the stories/movies, some of them have been supposedly being made for years with no new word.

The last bit was a dig at all the sequels and remakes, they really don't and haven't been doing original ideas for years.

And if that bothers you...I just don't even care tbh.

Go get snappy with someone else.

First time I'm using this image as a reply but this post deserves it.

Do you realise that there's at least two contradictions in that post ?

Are you aware that really, there aren't?

Firstly, Blade Runner has been done as a movie, P.K.D. has many other stories which could be adapted from new ORIGINAL screenplays, not rehashes or a "continuation".

And whatever the other one is supposed to be, I think I know, but really....I've already addressed that. Try to keep up.

Also, I'm as obsessive with books or movies that I enjoy as anyone else, but sometimes a story is done, like a painting or a piece of music, trying to milk it for all it's worth ruins it. Why ruin something that doesn't need to go on?

That story is done, don't tarnish the original with some pos action lame-ass well then this happened....

I am well aware too, that the book covers things not in the movie, but then the movie is not nearly as good as the book and liberties were taken. Still, it's done, do something else other than cash in on a name.

He was referring to the fact that your sentence was simultaneously berating the lack of original ideas in movies, while saying it should be based on a book, which is a contradiction. BooTx made the same observation, but without the face-palm.

Your next point about original screenplays Vs re-hashes is also contradictory - especially the way you've written it.

"P.K.D. has many other stories which could be adapted from new ORIGINAL screenplays"

That actually reads as though P.K.D's stories should be adapted from the screenplays, when you really mean there could be new movies (screenplays) adapted from the books. It is fair to argue that an original screenplay is more original than an adapted one from an original book.
