Default The new forums, rewarding admins involved
I was just thinking about these forums and the improvements we've had lately. Now that the forums have been updated I thought a thanks from the community would be appropriate. So thank you admins for doing this for us!

Now I believe I've read it somewhere that the people involved in the work have done this as a voluntarily without getting paid. I don't know if they have been/will be rewarded in any way by FM but seeing how much work they've done and how long they've been at it I think these guys should get something for their troubles. Even though it really is a business between FM and the persons involved, I'm hoping someone from the FM staff will comment on this matter because I think it would be in the best interest of the whole community to give these guys the credit they deserve. We need guys like this to keep the community alive!

Other thing I was thinking is maybe the community would want to contribute to this also if FM will not. I know these forums are full of generous members as I've been on the receiving end plenty of times. Would you guys (members) be interested if we would try to raise some cash and get something for the admins involved?

Let me know your opinions.

You need to ask the admins if that what they want though

Oh, and to be honest Quantumdefect.. I don't think any blow job is worth the time and effort I have put into this site upgrade/rebuild.
Can't hurt to let him try.

Thanks for the thanks...
I think FM should let you put a PayPal donation link in your sig with all that labor you gave them. Seems like some might donate. Peeps usually tend too.

At least you have access to the back door. Blackmail FM?

For those that don't know, I have invested over 1200 hours, over 5 months, rebuilding the site to vB4.
I knew it had to be a lot! Now everyone else, how many of us would put that much time into something for free? Josey deserves credit for his work!

I have yet to start the touchpad theme designs and have just a basic mobile theme in place for all at this point. I won't be working on touch themes until I can get myself a touch to do the work on. It's a bit hard to build and test themes for something you don't have.
The only thing that is pissing me off right now is not being able to buy a touchpad I can put windows 8 on to start work on the touch themes for the site. Futuremark corporation there's an idea for a small reward. Get Josey a touchpad and we'll all benefit for it in the long run. We can't expect him to go and buy one to be able to make the forums more usable for everyone can we? Besides, for a company the cost of touchpad is peanuts really anyway!

I appreciate the admins of Futuremark keeping these forums going well over a decade now and giving me a great place to go when I open up my browser. These new forums are well done and it's amazing how quickly they were refined to where they are now.

Wow i think the owners of FM should pay you for the work you have done. 1200 hours ?? and they chuck you a couple of free benchmark copy's ?? How ungrateful can they get ??

A highly successful profit making software development company taking advantage of a single fans good nature and his own spare time. How much would it have cost them to do it them selfs or pay someone else to come in and do it?

Wow i am shocked. I mean its not as if you did it for your mate down the road that needed his personal website updated. You did this for a successful company and you get nothing for it ?

I think FM should reward you for all the effort you have put in.

Maybe ungrateful is a bit harsh word at this point as they have not commented this issue at all but that kind of work amount should absolutely be rewarded. Leaving the involved admins without decent reward would be a pretty bad case of exploitation and I don't think Finnish companies in general are known to do that. Let's just hope they acknowledge the situation

It's nice they at least gave all he software but in this case I think it's quite insufficient.

I have to say I'm really disappointed with FM staff. The total lack of response is worse than saying you just are not interested in or can't compensate the admins for their work.

No business is going to discuss its internal workings with its customers.

Basically, the silence is telling you to mind your own business. It's like the country pub where the regulars think they have a say in the management of the place because they drink there all the time.

Goodness, i was thinking it was a few odd weekends - I, and I would expect many others, had no idea of the scale of the work involved - that's like 5 months of 60 hour weeks on top of your other work/hobies/ household responsabilities !
As such, I've got to add a well done and thanks for all the hassle you've gone through.

As far as recompense goes, I would say that was a private matter between you and the site owners - maybe they can shout you a touch pad for testing under WIN8 (hint), but that's their call.

I would hope they're happy with you using it as a reference for seeking further employment in the field, though - thinks are going to have to pick up eventually and those with something to demonstrate should have a deserved advantage

Well they are using forum members to get the job done. If it's internal and they don't like us discussing about it maybe they should try to use some other means to get the (free) job done for them.
