Aren't you in banking? Is now really a good time to be boasting about a big wage in that field?
Well I have all you tax-payers to thank... without that lovely TARP, I'd be doing a lot worse. So, thanks!

Yes, I am saving hard as it happens. I did treat myself to the MBP in my sig, but the last laptop I bought was 5 years ago, so I think that's allowed. I'm also paying my mortgage off as quickly as I can while the interest rates are so low.

It will take me 16 years of training after college before I make that much...

Yeh, but the likelyhood is he will be burnt out by then.

Bankers make a lot of money so that they can retire early. That's what my friend in the field says anyway. He might just be a lazy git though.

Zoo is an old man!
He's not much older than I.

Of course, if the Pelosi fans have their way, I will never make that much, two doctorate degrees notwithstanding.

Come to Florida, open up your own practice, and join in on the milking of PIP circle jerk network. You'll make twice that!

I saw soemthing on TV this week that pretty much compared UK and Aus salaries and the point was in Aus you'd get an extra 20-40% extra (kind of) for doing the same jobs. A vet would get 50k instead of 35k and a nurse 40k instead of 28k for example.
Seems about right, based on those averages and ours. Esp. good news considering we are at parity with the USD at the moment. The whole world is upside down really. [rofl]

No one needs to 'judge' that - it's in my profile.

Do you want to open that door?
Depends, it's the appropriate thing to do for the elderly... and women. [yes]

I edited my post... the point was he seems to be gagging to blurt personal information (even though it's readily available) and two could play at that.

Buy a cheap one? You should feel lucky, your income is higher then my gf and I's income combined and I work about 96 hours a fortnight, my gf works about 60. I'm still trying to figure out how I can even move out of my grandmothers place. I've yet to even contemplate about buying a house.

As for last years total, I have no idea, probably around $15+k.

As for this year with new job, probably around $30+k.

As for next year if I can land a better job, I'm hoping to hit $50k.
I take it you have not been in the market for buying houses. Lets just say sure there are cheap places I could afford to buy in the country for $250,000 - $270,000. The problem with that though, is well I need to live in it to get first home buyers grant and also generate income by getting someone in the home to help pay it off. I could not buy a cheap home remote and rent in Melbourne at the same time, it's far to expensive and you're better off buying a house here.

To buy a cheap small home/apartment in Melbourne, mate you'd lucky to find a place for less than $330,000. I'm looking at cheap old apartments that are not so good, for $330-350k. To buy cheap house you're looking around $400,000 and your average middle income house that still isn't all that much flash is now worth around $500,000.

Now I can't simply move to the country to live and earn the same income. You'd be lucky to get an IT job in the country paying what I earn. My skills are limited to built up commercial hubs, where unfortunately housing is not cheap.

If I spend my entire career with the Army I will never even make that much. Salary for DB-04 (our version of GS-15) caps out at $155,000 with locality pay for the DC area. I barely make a little over half of that. Yet, the benefits are pretty agreeable.

I guess I also can't complain too much though, my girlfriend is a Ph.D.-level therapist and makes barely half what I do (and incurred around 3x the amount in student loans for her education as well).
