Never watched or even heard anything about this series, but from the Trailer it looks like a cheap tv version of 300. Didnt impress me.
It's like a cheap, trashy, over-stylized version of HBO's Rome.

I have to say I really liked S1 and the prequel series a lot. S3 isn't cutting the mustard for me - I never realized how great an actor Andy was until he was gone. The new Spartacus has no where near the presence of Andy. Several other actors have been swapped as well and it has a very B movie feel to it now.

How much appeal would this lose if it didn't have the "sexual debauchery" part?
Roughly 1/3. The other two parts being the violence and the drama.
But don't discount getting to see Xena go lesbian in a threesome.

I haven't seen it, I'm just asking.
To be honest, I watched Game Of Thrones and the mandatory sex scenes in every episode were becoming truly comical.
IMO they add all the sex stuff and ultra violence to "fit in" with todays "standards" for vulgarity. However, besides some exceptions, most of the vulgarity fits in ok and some scenes are done very well. The thing is that the story and acting is very good, if they took out the sex and ultra violence it would still be a great show, mabye even a bit better.

Depends on the mood, If I want to watch good TV, and the episode is constant sex scenes where the story doesnt progress, its annoying. If I want to fire up the paper towel and hand lotion, then bring the sex scenes on!! Lawl![rofl]
