Default Taxes....Confused?
So I was checking to see if my W-2 was posted by my employer , it was, so I decided to fill out my return form via TurboTax.

After it was all said and done.... I owe $11 Federal and $12 State.[surrender] I didn't submit it obviously, cause I am very shocked!

In 2010, I had 3 different incomes throughout the year, with the months of Oct-Dec being with my current employer. I claim 0, am single, do not own a home, etc. My return for 2010 was slightly lower than it was in 2009 (with gross income being less) however I made significantly more in 2011 than I did in 2010. Yet, nothing has changed, as far as deductions (have none) and I did not change what I claim.

How is it that I owe? Can someone help me and explain this?

Do you have W2s from the previous 2 employers (If I read correctly) it sounds to me as your Federal withholdings are way too low. The state I can't help you with, although I generally owe a few bucks here in NY claiming 0 with mortgage interest to write off.

It happens. The first year I owed I was shocked and didn't submit right away either. I had my employer withhold an extra $10 per check from then on.

Honestly, it sounds like your taxes are good.

Ideally, you want to be as close to zero as you can get. I would be fine with having to pay a few dollars like that. Getting back a refund doesn't mean you are getting a bonus or extra money, it simply means you unwillingly gave the government an interest free loan and you are getting the same money back that you would have already had if your taxes were more accurate.

I'm just more surprised that I didn't change anything (other than a new, higher paying job) and all of last year I was looking forward to a refund

Dammit, I was gonna use that to get a new place!

I think I might have my father's accountant mull over any possible deductions I can tack on, if any
