Well technically an economy based on consumption requires a working class that is doing well, i.e. somehow those people making money and spending it on real estate/luxury items have to subsidize the poor to make the cake bigger as a whole.

Value is subjective, but IMO educating the next generation is very valuable. I think their pay is low because taxpayers are stingy. The low pay is only an indicator of what taxpayers think, which only shows that they are low value if you think an appeal to the masses is a valid argument.
That's a retarded statement. If education was so valuable then parents would bid up salaries for private school teachers and force up pay in the public sector. If anything, taxpayers are overpaying. Taxpayer preference provides a floor, not a ceiling.

Parents don't get the benefit of food they give their kids either, but we trust they'll feed their kids in almost all cases. Ignorance is a hell of a lot less damaging than malnutrition.

The value of educating a child does not equal what their parents will pay. Are children with poor parents worth almost nothing? And since public schools don't charge tuition private schools are at a disadvantage. The private school teacher has to be worth thousands of dollars more for someone's child's education than the public school teacher. So unless private school teachers are worth A LOT more people won't switch to private schools and won't drive up the salaries in private schools.

I think what he is saying is that it has a high return on investment over the long term and is emotionally satisfying even though the direct economic impacts don't develop until decades later (when the kids grow up and start working themselves). I can easily see why many people would consider that a rewarding and necessary career which positively impacts many lives even if the immediate economic benefit is not apparent.

I mean ****, you can do 3 commercials and make $100,000. SAG wages for major features START at $700/day, and even some off-Broadway shows pay $1500/week
