Don't forget to check out Adams.
Last time I went club shopping I hit everything I could find. I was convinced I was going home with a set of TaylorMade's or Callaway's. However, as much as I tried to like them, I just didn't. I kept coming back to a set of Adams clubs that was at least $100 cheaper than all the "hot" names. The price didn't factor into it at all, since as I said, I was trying to convince myself to buy one of bigger names, but when I decided the Adams were the right club for me, it was a nice bonus. |

You bet. There is a thread here titled Callaway Razr X - All Lines. A couple of the Callaway staffers in the Morgan Cup played the Razr X Forged (Coolbreeze comes to mind, with KBS Tour S) and have added their thoughts in that thread. I chimed in a few times as well with my thoughts. I am currently gaming Razr X Forged with PX Flighted 6.0's (the stock offering), but will be switching to KBS Tour S in a few weeks. I came to the Razr X Forged from GI lines my whole golfing life (Cleveland TA6's and Adams a7's) and had no problem picking these irons up and hitting them well. I went to a demo day in St. Louis and picked up the Razr X Forged up, mainly because they looked good and I was curious. And from the word go, I was stroking these things. I was in love. I was hitting them so well, the rep came up and handed me the MB version after a while and said, "Your hitting those well. Why don't you give these a try". I told him, "It usually goes the other way. The reps are usually handing me a "safer" iron". |

I do not have experience hitting all those but there is a great review thread on the J40 cb's. There were a few people who didn't feel comfortable in general with a smaller top line but they had no problems adjusting to the J40's. |

I am obviously biased, but I would add the Callaway Razr X Forged to that list of clubs to try. I think they will fit right in line with what you are looking for. One of the sharper looking sets of irons out there (basic but still eye catching without going overboard) and there is enough forgiveness packed in that they should appeal to a pretty broad range of golfers.

So, I've been playing the same Mizuno MP 29s since I was in high school, played college golf with them, but I'm aging and can no longer hit a blade as crisp as I once could. I still consider myself a decent golfer, but I need an iron that offers some forgiveness. I hate a thick top line, and would prefer a forged cavity back. What would you suggest? So far I've looked at:
Mizuno MP 59 Taylor Made RAC TP Taylor Made CB TP Bridgestone J40? |
