Our school had a golf program and I couldn't tell you one single thing about it. I had one friend who was on the team and I don't recall asking him one time about it. I dabbled in several of the other sports except basketball since I was among the shortest in my class. Mostly I was a band geek, it was the only thing I did all 4 years of HS. I hadn't really thought too much about golf for my son until we were at a driving range together hitting some balls. He wanted to start playing with me and the pro there came up and asked if he had started taking lessons. I said no, and he commented how good a swing he had and to get him lessons before he develops bad habits. He also started talking to me about golf scholarships and about how much more easy they are to get than any other sports scholarship. Now I'm not saying they hand them out like candy. It still takes a lot of hard work, dedication and skill to get one, but as soon as he said that, it brought a new perspective of golf to me and my son. The biggest thing that I've taken away from golf is this. It is a game that you can play from 5 years old to 95 years old as long as you can walk and swing your arms almost. There aren't many people past high school playing sports competitively past graduation. It's something you can play with your kids and wife-Your family. And you can form lifelong friendships and make new friends on the course.

The biggest reason that I never really considered golf myself was economics. I thought you had to be rich to play. Now-a-days you can't hardly find a deal around kansas city that doesn't include a cart and you're playing for about $30. There are TONS of opportunities for people in every economic class to play. Absolutely I wish that I had played back in high school. Not only because I would be much better today, but also because of all of the great times that are had on the courses all over.

Default High school golf, looking back
For those of us past high school that never played golf, do you kick yourself
for not playing as much as I do?
Looking back I wish I'd have played from an early age instead of waiting to
take the game up when I was almost 30.
Not sure I'd be any better, but I'm sure if I'd have played
golf instead of ever other sport my body wouldn't ache and crack an pop
when I get up in the mornings lol.
Anyone else in this boat with me?

Wish I would've started playing when I was 8. But If I didn't play on my HS team, I wouldn't regret it. It was just a bunch of stuck up A**holes. One was addicted to Aderall and had to take some before he played. I hated all of them.

I hate to say this, but golf wasn't exactly the cool thing to do in high school, so I never really got into it. I wish I did when a friend started playing, would love to see where my game would be today.

Another reason, as I read above, I always thought golf was a rich man's game. Still kick myself in the ass to not start earlier.

I didn't start playing until my 20s either. I wish there had been someone in my family that played who encouraged me back the. But of well. I'm enjoying it now so I guess better late than never.
